    I heard the sirens.....

I think it would be more fun if Mango typed in early 1920's gangster lingo.

I don't try to squash their creativity, I just try to put it in its proper place. There have been many good new posters around.(Band Geek and RocksMillenium come to mind) Some get the hang of it quickly, and some stayed in the ESPN chat rooms too long and picked up some bad habits.

I thought the word "tuna" derived from the amount caught after a long day of fishing. One of the best fisherman in the pacific (more than 150 years ago) named James Tolbert was famous for the size of his catch. At the end of the day he would have to record the weight amount of fish he caught, as required by law. Feeling stiffled by the new rules and regulations first inroduced at that time, tolbert would show his protest of the system by consistently writing "a tun a fish." Having only an elementary education, he actually meant to write "a ton of fish" - regardless of how much he caught. Soon fame of his modest attempts to buck the system became wide-spread in the region. However, most people who read about the story (rather than hear it) didnt really get what Tolbert was trying to say with "tun a" and thought his protest consisted of simply writing jibberish..which endeared him even more to the public. Anyway, they mistakenly gave it the "toon" sound rather than the "tun" sound. Thus, Tolbert's catch, which consisted mostly of what we call tunas today (plus a few dolphins) was given the name "tuna".

Wow. Did mommy help you write that? You know she doesn't like you playing with her computer until you wash the peanut butter and jelly off your hands. Now do your homework and then you can try again.
