Actually, Freak, this one's easy: it's simply a matter of how you define "doing" things for minorities. By the Democratic (and media) definition of "doing" things for minorities, the GOP fails miserably, for the exact reasons you're citing.

Namely, the Republicans just aren't that big on saying, "HERE'S OUR PROPOSAL FOR THE BLACKS!" Since the GOP doesn't play the labeling game-- and shouldn't need to, since a tax cut applies to everyone rather than a specific skin color-- they lose the PR battle.

I'm just amazed, based on Bill Bradley's speech last night, that anyone can support Bill Clinton. I mean, there are so many things wrong with this country-- hungry kids waiting for their turn to eat, uninsured sick people, etc etc ad nauseum-- that Clinton should be publicly flogged and then thrown into a volcano. I mean, if his stewardship is solely responsible for the economic boom of the 90s (take that, Gates! Flake off, Dell! See you in hell, Ellison!) then surely he's equally culpable for the problems that Bradley cited.

    BK,

All of the problems you listed existed before Clinton and will continue after.

Yes, even after GWB is president.

The reason is simple - they are too difficult. Major changes would have to be enacted. No matter who is president, these major changes would not occur. It would upset too many structures, too many people.

I, unfortunately, missed Bradley's speech last night, so I cannot speak educatedly on any of the issues he brought up. My opinion, however, remains the same.

Besides, the first four years of a presidency is geared towards getting elected for the second four years - they are always the least productive.

I know. I'm just poking fun. Both parties work this way: "Here's what's RIGHT with America thanks to US, and here's what's WRONG with America, thanks to THEM!"

What galls me is that there were morons in the crowd last night (and in the GOP's crowd too obviously) that heard that from Bradley and believed it-- that if we only had a House, Senate, and Executive Branch entirely filled with Democrats, we'd have all the success and also eliminate all the problems.

    Hilarious. And depressing.

    BK,

I'm afraid that the solutions to Bradley's concerns are big government in nature. What's your excuse? [IMG]

Freak, you are taking my post and re-arranging it to make it sound ignorant. If I have to explain to you(who I assume is an intelligent being) about what I mean "do for minorities", then just skip the post and forget what I said all together.

Obviously, you are just trying to make is sound like minorities need charity and that is obviously NOT what I am saying. And if you have read all my other post, I have also likened minorities to women and anyone that is poor. Obviously, the Republicans have a great record on a womans right to choose, tax cuts for the poor and the like.

So, take the meaning and the words in my posts, re-arrange them again in your mind, and ask me another question. Otherwise, forget it.

It annoys me to no end that white people sometimes see that everything is equal when I am a Latino who has to work 14 hours just to keep up with the white, Harvard grad behind me trying to take my job. I had to beat out 2 white Columbia grads and an a-hole from Brown(who was Italian)just to get this job. And you know how I got it? Not because I was the most qualified. But because my BLACK boss who was with me when I was in computers, happens to be a close friend with my present boss. And I know for a fact, that I was NOT going to get this job if it wasn't for him despite a higher GPA, a DOUBLE MAJOR in Econ and Finance, 10 year work experience and fluent in 3 languages!!!!!!!! Oh, maybe because I went to New Jersey City University? A college nobody hears about? Maybe I had a hard time getting the job because the other candidates paid 10 times more for their tuition? Maybe I had a hard time because they averaged 22 years of age and I was an old 26? Maybe because they out-hustled me for the job? Scored higher on the job psychological tests? Maybe I only got one interview and they both got called back for at least 2 and impressed the hell out of my boss? Or because I am Latino and needed to KNOW someone to get at least noticed? Those three other jerks couldn't carry my jock if everything was even, ok? So, a little help with laws that even things out is a bad thing? Why should the Republicans worry about making things even on the playing field when its obvious to ME that it not even close to being equal in corporate America!! I mean, why pass something like the Family Leave Act for the a-hole who makes 20,000 dollars a year(most of the people that make this money are black or latino) and can't afford to take time off fearing that he could lose his job? That is just a stupid, stupid, stupid "do for minorities" rule.

Oh, that was for all Americans. Ok, forget what I said.

Why do I bother arguing about this? I am just wasting my spit(keystrokes).

Freak, since you brought hiim up, Charles Barkley has repeatedly said he loves Bill Clinton and supported him over Bob Dole in 96 despite being a self-proclaimed Republican.

Inside out, you can't be scared. I wasn't. I never will be. The truth has never been truer: Its not what you know, its who you know.

Its just the absolute truth EVERYWHERE. Not just in NYC. You wanna know what one person told me? They said "Why don't you apply for the same position at the Bravo Group(our Hispanic advertising holding) instead of here. You could have better opportunities there".

    Funny, isn't it?
