I think that the declining quality in officiating applies to all of our professional sports in general.

Discussing refs is often done with quite a bit of hyperbole. I am guilty myself. I have said refs were stupid, blind, biased, and even intentionally rigging games. I have heard other people say the same. But tonight took the cake:

    1. Jason Kidd's intentional hockey check - foul.

    2. Aaron Brooks' preventing Ericka Dampier from scoring by holding his shoulders in an attempt to pin his arms and limit his range of motion - flagrant foul.

Keep in mind we won the game, so this isn't sour grapes, but are you kidding me? This is either the result of bias/rigging or crack cocaine intoxication! No one is stupid enough to make that call, especially when one considers the tedious replay review.

Utterly sickening! I am so tired of it! If I didn't love the Rockets I would quit watching the NBA. It's becoming worse than pro wrestling. At least those fans know it's theater.

    JOKE!!!

I know what you're getting at. In the rules if it is seen as an illegitimate attempt at the ball...which it was, then it is a flagrant. However how many time do we see it not paid as a flagrant foul....such as fouls at the end of games.

Again the crew was fair in the Mavs game. They were just overly cautious and tried to get things right. It is better than an egomaniac taking control of the game.

I gues everyone has there own opinions but I think it's best that from what we'ver heard from Donaghy and David Stern we should start paying more CLOSELY attention to the NBA games and how David Stern is handling this. I think the REPLACEMENT REFEREE crap is just an EXCUSE for the NBA and all these bad calls. The nba knows what there doing and they will keep everything SECRET AGENDA STYLE. Celtics and Lakers have a combine of 1 million championships, why? Because thats what everyone wants to see that is where the MONEYS at. CELTICS/LAKERS Finals a couple years ago = MAJOR MONEY. Why not keep rolling the dice until you get caught like Donaghy did?

is this really how the rule is written? then why is it that not every pushing foul is a flagrant?

I think its a combination of using unneccessary force and not playing the ball on shooting attempts. Its strangely written for sure, but its just to give the league loopholes to offer certain players get out of jail free cards or unjust punishment(at the other end of the spectrum).
