You would rather a relationship where players are shoved down the coach's throat? It would never fly with a guy of JVG's stature. This is the norm for most teams in the NBA as well as the NFL and (to a lesser degree) MLB. Where have they dropped the ball in this regard? We got Stro for good value despite his struggles, and Luther at the bottom of the first round has been okay at least. Only problem I see is the focus on getting guys on the verge of retirement that don't live the life of their deal, but keep in mind all of those deals were for peanuts. I strongly disagree: -Tanking is a horrible message to send to the players and fans, and installs a mindset of mediocrity. -We are currently 11 games above last place, with 11 teams below us, and facing what is regarded to be a shallow draft. I can't picture us getting a top 5 pick even if we did tank, nor do I know of any player outside of the top 5 that would be all that enticing to reach for. We aren't that bad off in the big picture, provided McGrady takes care of his back issues. Evan
Its kinda hard to win games when you only shoot 28% from the field with the exception of Yao and then stop going to him in the fourth quarter.
To me, the innocence was lost when Les fired Turbo. I know he rehired him a week later after hearing the outcry, but my loyalty was never the same. I have been a jaded, negative Rockets' fan ever since.
Amen I would like to say to all the Clyde haters, don't worry I'm sure he will quit this job like he has quit every job since retiring ie. UH, Denver Nuggets etc. etc. Les is a great owner (see uncle drayton) CD has made great moves and he has also made terrible signings and terrible draft picks. To me his whole body of work has been above average. JVG is not a hall of fame coach but he is in the top 1/3 in the NBA. I like an organization with stability and thats what we have. The Rockets goal every year is to compete for a title and that is acceptable to me as a fan.
I don't blame you. We have to appease the gods for that sin too. We now have what you call the curse of Turbo-Drexler.
One thing I can't figure out. If you're one of these guys where everything Rockets is negative, you know, from hating every player not named Yao with a passion, to hating the coach, to wishing a player suffers a career ending injury, I question what this is really about to you. If I wasn't reasonable, if i didn't see a light at the end of the tunnel, if i couldn't step back and see things for what they are and follow the Rockets without hatred and anger with every thought I wouldn't do it anymore. Everything Rockets I would shut down. Why do that to yourself. I don't get it. If the Rockets bring out the worst in me, I would say why do this then. I'd take a break. Realize what really matters in life and maybe try to follow them again after all that. But I would never post my negative spew over and over, you know, I hate this player, I hate the coach, he sucks, they suck, they're worthless - out of consideration for the other Rocket members on the board I wouldn't do it.
If organization stability is maintained by sacrificing team stability, I would rather prefer team stability first. Do you know how many players have been through the Rox team since 2001? It looks like the team has been in turmoil. The Rox goal every year is to compete with monetary constraint. It is not necessarily to compete for a title.
We stuck with that francis, mobley, taylor core for years and it became aparent that we were not gonna win a title with that group. I have faith that a healthy T-MAC and YAO the way he is playing are gonna be enough to get us a title as long as we put the right pieces around these guys. It's gonna take some time to find the right mix thats why there has been turnover. Not to mention we had to take on players we did not want from the T-mac trade (for saleries to match up)so then there was more turnover getting those guys out of here
I agree. Our problem is we have no way of getting better players around Yao and T-Mac without trading one of them. We can't get a set of good role players and a legit 3rd option for scoring with Howard, Wesley, Swift, Alston, and even Head. We couldn't even give them Head, they would'nt want Head from us. How sad. I'm not sure if, or when, we're going to get better role players, because our team was pretty damn good when both Yao and McGrady were healthy.
18 different starting line-ups since the beginning of the season. Even our most durable players have missed some games. I was proud of the way the guys played tonight, even though they could have built the Great Wall of China with all the bricks they were laying. I was happy to at least see them play with heart and not give up. It was against the team with the best record in the west and without two of our starters - one of them an important part of our offense. There are some postives in all of this: Yao is going to be much stronger as a result of this season Luther might turn out to be pretty good Rafer is a keeper This poor shooting makes Dikembe look like a well oiled offensive machine - I sometimes find myself wishing he would try the hook...
