Eh, that's not a regular 7 seed. They went 22-5 in the regular season since they added Butler. Had they had played at that pace start to finish, that's 67 wins .814. They'd have been the 2 seed 1 game behind OKC ..... For comparisons sake, the Rockets finished 16 games behind OKC. Hate to say it but the Warriors are still a very good team - the better team in this series. The Rockets need better guard play .... from both spots.
... this looks like confession by projection, you should probably talk to someone about that. Sorry it happened to you kid.
We don't know until we try. Right now, he is averaging less than 8 minutes per game sitting on the bench. These are FVV's minutes +/- in the four games: 40 min -3 (game -10) 42 min +19 (game +15) 40 min -16 (game -11) 40 min. -7 (game -3) Total -7 (game -9) So FVV is +2 above the game differentials, which is almost even. There is no solid evidence that we would be significantly in the negative without him on the floor.
You would certainly know kiddo…. “Ime hates winning”. Probably one of your more low IQ statements and you have quite a few!
There are 2 seasons of data showing the Rockets are much worse without FVV on the court. There are plenty of seasons with the Raptors that show the same thing. The only data that shows FVV has not been a positive impact for the Rockets is piecemeal data such as shooting that ignores his passing and defense, and limited postseason data this season that shows he only helps a little. Overall, the anti-FVV position relies on assuming the Rockets are just extremely lucky when FVV is on the court, and the coach that has the Rockets way way outperforming most projections is an idiot.
Oh I actually know this. I knew going in this was at best 50/50 and thought the Rockets would more likely than not lose. But so many people keep harping on the Rockets being the #2 seed and all the national media haters underestimating them and so forth, so I figure it's worth noting that they're beating beaten by a much lower seed.
I think @Joe Joe said it perfectly. There is no solid evidence after a training camp, practices, and a regular season there is anyone else who provides an offensive floor aside a bunch of thoughts and prayers. No one is saying that FVV isn't overtaxed in his current role or isn't having a down 3pt shooting season (38% on 8 3PA last season is actually kinda good). Sometimes the answer is simple and we just aren't ready yet. It just sucks it's against the hated GSW. Oh and this: 60-95 on FTs in first round. We have left 35 points on the free throw line.
Look at the team harden carried to the western finals in 2015. He was playing Jason Terry as his second gaurd and an injured dwight vs klay, curry, and draymond.
What coach wants a player who is shooting / playing as poorly as FVV?? It boils down to not having any viable option. Amen might be the future at the PG spot but that aint today - he's got a long way to go to become a competent point guard - and it's more than just shooting. Ime is getting him minutes "any way he can" in the mean time.
Playoffs data is by nature small sample size. On the other hand, we should agree that regular season and playoffs are very different games. If you want to call playoffs data "piecemeal" then there is not much we can discuss. FVV's playoffs performance track records were all over the place. Jalen gets all the attention. But FVV is as wildly inconsistent. He did very poorly in the most recent playoffs series (2022) where he was -10 relative to game differentials on .486 TS%. That's not positive winning contribution. In this year's series against GS, after a hot shooting night, his overall efficiency is slightly better than the 2022 series against Philly. And he's dishing out less than 5 assists per game on more than 40 minutes per game. The only thing consistent with FVV is his low TO rate. I'd give you that. But with so many missed shots, are you sure they aren't worse than a few more TOs in terms of wasted possessions? I am actually not anti-FVV. In fact, I still maintain that his signing was the right move. I am anti-not trying something else when FVV is clearly not doing well. Playing a PG 40+ mpg for four straight games against the same opponent when he is shooting like crap and dishing less than 5 apg is close to insanity. The only valid argument IMO is that there's no one else who can take the role. And that's my point. We haven't even tried giving anyone else a chance in this series. How do you know they wouldn't work better?
