Is it just me or am I the only one who sees that DMo's offensive game consists of running around the perimeter setting pick after pick for the guards, and then when the ball is shot, he hurries to get the offensive rebound only comes too late? I am still dumbfounded why he is not posting up more when Howard is not on the floor. I can only think of 3 possible reasons: 1. the coaching staff doesn't want his post game 2. the coaches do tell him to post, he just love the outside too much 3. the coaches do tell him to post and he wants to post but he just sucks at positioning himself inside #1 is possible, but not likely. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true though. #2 is unbelievable. He is dying to get PT. I just can't believe he would refuse to do what the coach tells him to do. #3 is probably the most likely cause. If so, I have lost faith in him. And I am a huge DMo fan.
The good: 1. He's rebounding at a crazy rate. 2. He's going to the foul line 4.5 times per game in only 17 minutes.
This team had to be forced to post howard much of last year until the playoffs where it seemed to be the best option. This team doesnt activley look in the post. DMO has plenty of times sealed his man but the periemeter guys will swing the ball back and forth and not actively seek out to see if DMO is in good position.
I think its a combination of 1 and 3. His post game , while pretty is still raw in its effectiveness. He turns the ball over a fair amount while in the post and the coaches definitely don't want this. On point 3 , everyone on our team seems to have trouble getting but more importantly maintaining post position.. D-mo is no exception. I like D-mo runing the pick and rolls especially when there are open 3 point shooters that he or the other ball handler can find. I dont think number 3 is that big of a deal. Howard has trouble doing this. It is something that will take a lot of practice and reps. Right now D-mo doesnt have the full trust of coahcing staff or really his own confidence on Offense. Now on Defense he shines and looks great. Offensively with his skills he will eventually settle in but being a big and not having great hands/finishing skill makes him suspect at times. I love D-mo and think he will be better than Jones by the end of the year. HE has played well in all 4 games so far and should get more touches on O as his comfort level increases.
I guess this is number 1. The offense is more efficient without going to him in the post usually. The rare times he would be a good option, no one on team has a feel for feeding post. PS feeding Dwight is much easier than feeding Motiejunas as he holds his position sealing his man easily.
Well, maybe it's #4: DMo sucks at getting position inside, therefore the coaches ask him not to post up. The point though, is that the post game is clearly DMo's best offensive skill. If he is not used there, then he is pretty much useless on offense. Actually, as someone has already mentioned, he is also a good passer. He would fit in an Adelman offense where a good passing big operates in the high post. But we are not running that kind of system here.
Terrence is out tonight. Hopefully DMo gets the start and he swings from the corner to the top of the arc, leaving space for Dwight, and hopefully he nails down a couple nice wide-open 3-balls or us. As good as DMo is in the post.........if he can't do the simple things while Dwight is in the game then he has limited usefulness on this team. He's got to be able to play effectively alongside Dwight to make a serious difference in this team.
Ok D. Mo here is your chance. I'll never be happier to be proven wrong about a player. I have a fork and knife ready to eat crow. Here's to November 4th being the day D. Mo grabbed the starting spot from Jones and never relinquished.
I was thinking the same thing. D. Mo doesn't even jump for rebounds. He plays below the rim...way below.
He'll never evolve. I'll take that Williams dude on the Heat that I've never heard of over D-Mo at this point.
