I agree. I have no doubt he can beat NBA PG's off the dribble but the guys he was burning so easily would probably be the worst defensive PG's in the NBA(Barea and Jared Jordan). I want to see him go against an NBA caliber PG so I can be proved right but it would just ease my mind if he blew by guys like Rajon Rondo or Kyle Lowry who are menaces on defense. Basically anyone with solid athleticism, length, and quickness I would like to see how Brooks respond. Should be pretty interesting.
Dane -- I loved Brooks at the college level. Loved him. Saw the Ducks beat the Bruins back early in the season and thought, "that's a Final Four team." And Brooks was reason #1 I felt that way. Having said that...i have no idea how he'll translate to the NBA. I think he may very well be a good player. I sure hope so. But I don't think summer league action is any real indicator of that. And it doesn't make me less confused that the Rockets took him, given their needs.
He had 9 Turnovers. He won't be playin regurlar min if he has 9 TO. At best he will be a backup point guard.
Look, we've got luis scola, jackie butler and mike james for only howard and Span. Any GM would be proud of those deals. Apprantly the bulls and the Cavs were offering alot better chips then we were, but morey pounced and got us a huge steal. we basically got our starting PF and PG without trading anyof our valueable assets like, battier, head or even rafer.
Put it this way, brooks is out performing lottery picks like YI(VERY OVERRATED) Jeff Green(5th pick) and a few other highly touted players...getting player of he's calibare for the 26th pick is a teal in anyones language.
yes but if you look beyond the boxscore at least half of those turnovers were off of offensive miscues, i.e. players cutting to the basket as he makes an entry pass or players simply not expecting a dish. I think he has alot of potential as a playmaker but it's hard to really gauge his ability until you put actual talent around him and not a bunch of rock handed summer league scrubs.
Dominating a bunch of low-life scrubs just means you've proven that you're a pretty good scrub. I'm sure Aaron Brooks would have an illustrious career in the NBDL. That's what we are seeing. We won't know if he can play until he actually goes against NBA talent.
I think those that should be eating crow are the ones who said Morey sucks before he even got started.
Final minute of every close game, they pick and roll us, and Brooks gets left alone in the post trying to stop some guy 6'6" or bigger. Every time. Good thing we've stocked the roster with all that shotblocking help.
too small. still think it was a bad pick and he will prove it in time. everybody getting their hopes up because of summer league dominancy? Give me a break. That's not nba defense he's playing against.
anyone that watched college basketball knows that brooks can play. he's good. How good in the NBA? we will see. From my perspective i was more shocked than anything, and that didnt mean i thought he was a bad player...just a peculiar pick at the time. However, if carl malone 2.0 was drafted after brooks and brooks is still a solid player...well then the "crow" can be put back up but lets not get ahead of ourselves and start putting unwarrented credit to brooks just yet...just like people did with vspan and novak
I'm not sure I can answer this question just yet. However, I do know I freaking hate the phrase "eating crow," which gets used around here every 22.2 seconds. Surely I'm not alone.
"Jose Juan Barea outplayed him for the first half last night. Brooks adjusted well, but Barea is an end-of-bench NBA player. His shooting ability makes me think that he can take JL3's spot, but we'll see." Brooks had 10 points 4 assists in the 1st half. Barera had 2 points and 2 assists. How the heck is that him Outplaying Brooks?
Man I'm glad to see this poll and the results. If you read the threads running around here about Brooks you'd think we signed steve nash and he was playing summer league for us. I guess there is a lot more reason than gets posted.
YI is a young foreign prospect, Jeff Green is a 20 year old college sophomore. Brooks is a 22 year old college senior. Of course he is doing better at this point.
