The only way we can possibly fill all the holes in one offseason is if we acquire James via S&T (Head). Then we can either spilt the Mid-level (bring in V-Span) or use the full mid-level on the likes of either Stevenson or Speedy, in addition to James. Because the Rockets were able to unload Swift's K to Memphis, they should have no problem taking on this additional salary burden.

Not much. Just think that Battier will be the 3rd best player in this team.

Steve Francis or Starbury will look great in our unis.

New York will be a great trading partner since they have made it somewhat clear that they are willing to move one of them.

Also we could ask them for Jalen Rose.

Stephon Marbury is the person I would want - with the win now mentality in mind, here is how it will work:

With Marbury and Mike James we will have more enough fire power in terms of offense. Marbury was once a force when he was a Sun and since we need all the force we can use, this will work out.

This is contingent on us getting Mike James via some sort of S&T.

We them add a PF with the full MLE.

After that we can fill out our roster with VME and LME.

CD is the one that said they traded Gay for Battier to win now. I don't think winning now means 3 years down the road, I think it means this season.

Three years down the road Gay may be Dr. J with defense. No one has disputed his talent. So if by winning 3 years down the road is what they meant then I think they made a huge mistake because I do think that in all likely hood Gay will be the better player 3 years down the road.

The Rockets management said it...The Gay for Battier was all about winning now so I fully expect the Rockets to pull out all of the stops to put a team on the floor that can contend for a Championship THIS year.

    Food for thoughts:

How long does it take the Lakers to have a "team" after they have Shaq and Kobe? How long does it take the Pistons after they traded Stack and got Rip and Ben and Chauncy? How long does it take the Heat after they got Shaq and Wade?

I thought the same thing too, but I now realize that Dallas was not playing with a lot of confidence. You take that same team above and try to play Dallas now it will be over 4-5 games .

correct. When you have one superstar with a 38-yr old Larry Bird back and another superstar with an I'm Illgoingtogaspus broken foot e v e r y t h i n g is about now. how often do you have two superstars like this.

oh, and btw: does anyone else remember that Yao absolutely jumped a level of superstardom last year. Cut the crap about comparisons to two yrs ago. That Yao is not this Yao (assuming the IIgoingtogaspus injury is not so bad). I think Yao jumped a couple of level to offset Wesley, Barry and whoever else.

I don't know. maybe I'm just a brainwashed idiot. Those Feigen articles and marketing letters to season tickets holders f with my mind somethings.

I think I need to go take another cold-blooded Novak shot in the corner. Anyone have a lime?

I don't know about T-Mac's back, but Yao's injury is the same as the one Michael Jordan got in his second year, and his career turned out fine.... I have full confidence that Yao will make a full recovery and be just as dominant, if not more dominant than before.

so, i'm not so much an idiot to think we have two superstars right now, like mabye 2 of the best 8 players in the league. phew! reading this bbs makes me second guess myself sometimes....and get really depressed enough to place all my hopes into an #8 pick in a bad draft.

hmm....now that someone game me a lime maybe I'll take another Novak shot in the corner for good measure.

What about Kurt Thomas??? Good rebounder, decent shotblocker, good defense, enforcer-type, has good range for a PF. He is a gigantic improvement over Juwan Howard. His contract is relatively expensive but it will expire soon.

    2006/07 2007/08
    $7,355,625 $8,091,187

We will never be under the cap anyway and itll expire soon so its not that big of a problem. Plus i think he can be had for cheap cuz Phoenix's frountcourt seems a little crowded now with the return of Amare Stoudamire. They would have Amare, Kurt, Marion, Tim Thomas, and Diaw.... One of them have to go and theyre in love with Diaw. Also Kurt has fallen out of favor of Coach D' Antoni(remember in the playoffs after his foot injury he never played much). He is also the type of guy we were looking for someone who could play the 4 and the 5.
I think if we give Juwan, (anyone to make salaries match, most likely an expiring contract). Throw in Head or a future first round pick(they need these to save money and for next offseason to sign diaw and other young players.). Make sure it is lottery protected also. The only problem is I dont know if they want to take on Juwans contract.... But Kurt's contract is bigger so they would be getting some salary relief. Then sign mike james and this would leave us with a line-up of:

    Rafer/Mike James
Tracy/Head(if hes not traded) or some scrub like Wesley
    Battier/Novak
    Kurt/Hayes
    Yao/Mutumbo/Kurt

Im in love with this line-up lol

Been wanting Murphy for a while now, He's a shooter and a big rebounder. Questionable D though (no worse than Juwan though), and we'd be one of the slowest teams in the league.

But a lineup of Alston, McGrady, Battier, Murphy and Yao would do some damage, no doubt.

If GS really wants to get rid of him then its definately worth considering.

winning now and being one player away from a championship are not the same things. I didn't hear anyone say that Battier put us over the top.

So you want us to believe that these two starting lineups are equal?

    Sura
    Wesley
    Bowen
    McGrady
    Yao

    Rafer / James
    TMac
    Battie
    Murphy
    Yao

Start a poll and see who agrees with you. You'd be damned lucky to get 10% of the total.

Murphy is would be an awesome addition....... and a great fit with Yao

i am mostly positive although not Feigan/HeyPee positive, my stomach only turn when i think of our starting PF... if we can fix that then i feel better.....

    getting James would be awesome....

i am not sure about the whole winning now or winning in the future thing, i just want to win and like watching this team again....... i really want to see a fit McGrady play with the 2006 Yao, that would be awesome, after that i suspect 3 of us from the bbs could play with them

Too true. Whatever great or talented star we trade for would need to follow Jeff's cryptic orders. Otherwise Jeff would take away his ball and walk home....

In JVG's tenure as head coach, we've seen several moves that resemble addition by subtraction.
