This is true, but then again in this forum we don't have people saying one unanimous thing. They were unanimous in their loathe of Brian cook. And I'll consider more strongly their opinion on their own player rather than their opinion on ours. And this is correct. I don't think he'd be expected to handle the ball as much anyways.
Once again. Insightful analysis from Mr Wet Blanket. We will probably hear him say something positive say ... next decade, next century Signed Rip Van Winkle
It would be funny in a sick sort of way to see Cook come here. It will be just like what happened with Rafer Alston: a bunch of fans clamoring for his arrival and then incensed once they actually see him play. Many people will curse at how lousy Cook is and why our front office ever made such a moronic trade. Then a new contingent of Cook supporters will arise: people like Brockstrapper, Rockets111, and various others will rush to the defense of Cook. They will explain to us idiots that Cook has many intangibles, scores within the flow of the offense etc. Krosfyah will come in and explain to us that only superstars are needed to win championships and what Cook does is irrelevant. Then after we get eliminated in the first round again people will begin to question whether Adelman is really right for this team, while completely neglecting the fact that Cook shot 30% from the field over the course of the 7 game series. So is this a good trade? In a word: NO!!!!
3 quick notes: 1. luther is only a spot up shooter. he has no mid-range game, and can't finish at the rim. he also gets beat on the perimeter and in the post on defense. 2. the same goes for cook, but a big guy who can spread the floor is much more valuable than a guard to does that. he also adds a decent post game (something we dont have outside of yao. 3. the only reason lakers fans hate him is because he demanded a trade once he lost his spot in the rotation to turiaf. behind odom, kwame, turiaf, and bynum there simply isn't enough minutes to go around. he sulked and the fans want him gone... much like rocket fans with bonzi...
You say that like it's nothing. Do we really want another whiner on the bench compaining about playing time when we already have Bonzi, James, and Spanoulis?
I thought the same thing when I read those two articles. I would totally be fine with trading Head+#26 for Cook+19. Especially if a late lottery type player falls. One guy in particular that I am intregued about is Thaddeus Young. He MIGHT be there at #19 if things fall right. And by all accounts he is a lottery type talent. Those of you that like Rudy Gay probably would be on board for Young. With Bonzi back it is Luther Head's minutes that are in jeopordy. Head has nice value around the league and I am sure Morey is investigating #26+Head for moving up. In fact the Miami Heat at #20 might be interested in that package as well. Maybe even Golden State at #18. Bobcats and 76ers picks are before us and both of those picks are those teams 2nd in the 1st round. They probably would be willing to move back on those.
considering that bonzi should be given significant minutes, and if aquired so should cook, i don't see any reason to complain. players like the ones you metioned know how talented they are. they know they deserve minutes. once they find a team that can play them they usually thrive.
The Lakers want to dump Radmanovic. And the Lakers need a PG. But does dumping Radmanovic's lengthier contract (relative to Rafer) worth moving back 7 spots and giving up a 2nd round pick? I don't think the Lakers do that. I could see the Rockets interest though.
The only way this trade even remotely makes sense is if Novak is traded elsewhere too. Why would we have Novak and Cook on the same roster? Can't we groom Novak to be a cheaper (maybe better) version of Brian Cook? I think he's up for it... Morey also says time and time again that our draft pick won't be helping us out this year, why trade one of our only chips to move into the top 20 if thats the case? Lakers, keep Cook, keep your pick... Let's save Head to package him in a deal for a real PF, quite frankly I'm sick of all these hybrid 3-pt. line wanderers...
It twern't a random trade idea and it wasn't necessarily a vettable deal. It was, however, merely something which sounds REALer to me than Cook - Head + pieces to get sals to match etc etc.
I don't mind the idea of trading Head, but for Brian Cook? I'm sure their are a couple of marshmellow PFs we could get in the draft that Timmy D and KG would be plenty happy to put 40 on, why trade Head to get one? Is spreading the floor really that big an asset when he has singlehandedly given the opposing team the bonus with 7 min. left in quarter? Say no to Scott Padgett II
