Yeah, I don't think people understand how good of a shooter he is. Here's his hotzones: There's no blue on that chart fellas. Turiaf is a pretty good shooter from mid-range as well. However, he also brings all the intangibles. He's like Chuck but with good size, more athleticism and a jumper that doesn't make small children cry. Here's his hotzones: There's not a whole heck of a lot of blue on this one either. Here's a little highlight reel of Turiaf. Not a whole lot of flash, but he gets the job done. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mXwZ8jMl3Zg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mXwZ8jMl3Zg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
If he's so useful why didnt he get off laker's bench that much? It's not like lakers didnt have wide open 3s with kobe on the court. Yes it's because Brian Cook SUCKS at everything else. He cant defend, rebound, block shot and he has zero low post game. We might as well sign padgett again. This way we wont have to cost Luther.
yes we do. we need a PF who can extend it out. I'd especially do this trade if we can swap picks with the lakers. we can replace lu with Marco... luther head does shoot the three well, but other than that he can do a whole lot of nothing. he has no size. he cant pass the ball. he's not a great finisher. he's not very good inside the arc either why does everyone love luther head so much?
I don't mind trading head for the right price, he was non existent in the playoff last year, and when he is not making his shots, he can't help the team in any other areas.
wow... you act like guards instead of PF should be able to rebound and block shots. If you think luther cant defend then you should see how Cook's being eaten alive by the PFs in the west.
You people act as if Cook would be our starting PF. We need some firepower off the bench, and Cook would be perfect if used in ideal situations where they are collapsing on the post. He has a quick release which is useful. In fact, if we do get Cook, this makes it easier to part with Novak and maybe get something useful while he still has a little bit value (meaning trade Novak + someone else and get another player). Luther Head is loved a lot around these boards, and although I like the player, everything besides his three point shot makes me sick.
Well, the Cook?head trade has been discussed, however, I do not believe that the Head+#26 for Cook+#19 has been touched upon. I would hate to do a poll on it before the draft, because it all depends on who is available at #19. My reading of Morey's hints is that he would pull the trigger only if one of his top 10-15 are available at #19. it is all speculative, but I was looking at the mock drafts to figure out who might be considered as lottery talent by Morey that is not certain to go in the lottery. For absolute comedy sake, imagine that it is this guy: http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/daequancook.html Imagine if in a single swoop we get two Cooks on the roster. We'll be really cooking next season!
yeah. cook isnt great, but i'd take him over luther head. cook doesnt throw passes into the 5th row. both players can only do one thing well, but we're swapping picks...why wouldnt u wanna do that luther head gets eaten alive in the post. there are some guards who can rebound and get an occasional block. i dont expect lu to b/c he is undersized...
Hopefully this trade is contingent upon what happens up to pick #18. Specifically, if Sean Williams is still on the board at #19 (the Laker's pick), we ship Head and the #26 to L.A. and they send us Cook and we move up to 19 for Williams. I'd be perfectly happy with that. Williams/Hayes/Cook isn't such a bad PF rotation in the type of scheme Adelman is going to want to implement.
Scott Padgett is no Brian Cook. There's a reason Cook has a 3 year 10.5 million dollar deal and Scotty can't stay on a roster. He may be a bit of a liability on defense, but he's not that bad. He's not a great rebounder, but he's no worse than Juwan was. You say he has zero low post game. Those red areas surrounding the rim suggest otherwise. This guy has some good moves and very good touch inside. He's no Hakeem, but to say he has no post game is wrong. Our options at power forward are very limited. There is absolutely nothing in free agency, the best we can hope for in the draft for a 4 in our current position is Glen Davis or Nick Fazekas and our tradable assets are limited. Guys like Cook, Turiaf or maybe Varejao are probably the best we can hope for. If not we could be looking forward to Chuck getting big minutes and maybe a signed Joe Smith coming off the bench. There's the rumored Battier for Wilcox deal, but I would rather keep Battier and trade Head for a 4 man. I see Battier as a vital piece to this team.
I'm really not sure. Luther Head = Mike James' three point shot, and nothing else. Last I checked, we just got Mike James back.
I know. We cant just have Chuck Hayes. We need guys who can knock down open shots. Luther Head can knock down open threes, but thats about it. He becomes Rafer Alston when you move him inside the threepoint line. If we can get the lakers pick, i'd do this trade w/o blinking...
Cook is Padgett with quicker release. There's a reason Lakers want to trade him when his extension has not even been effective. He's a BIG liabilty on defense that's why he cant get off laker's bench with his good jump shots. If scoring surround the rim means you have low post game, then Tony parker is one of the most dominant low post player in the league. Cook has only one asset and it's good face up jumper, THAT'S IT. He's a liability facing the PFs in the west. If our PF rotation will be foul-prone Hayes and soft-as-tissue cook, it would be a nightmare. If Cook will be used as 3rd string PF, then why should we use our useful rotation player Head to get him? Padgett would be adequate. Head's NOT untouchable but he should be used to trade for a rotation player with at least 25+ mins playing time. Cook will never play such mins or we're doomed. If you want to know how bad Brain cook is, you should really read some lakers fans comments on him in their forum. Serious, I have yet to read one single fan who reject cook-head trade. I am dead SERIOUS. None.
I hate this trade idea. COOK is soft, just can shoot the 3. we have NOVAK in our squad. why should we drop our best 3 point shooter for a much more expensive NOVAK-type player??
Actually this is correct. I was browsing the lakersground.net forums just to see their opinion on the whole Kobe situation (and it's hilarious), and I did encounter a thread about this Cook/Head deal. And they absolutely despised Cook. They were all for the Cook/Head deal.
