I like Pole because he is so much smarter than everyone else - and he is not afraid to let us know the truth.

When I grow up, I want to be a socialist president.

There are no politics, only DADA.
DADA! DADA! DADA! DADA! DADA! DADA! DADA!

    Launch Pad,

I may not agree with everything you've said (although I do some of it), but my previous comments were neither directed to you nor to Pole.

Funny stuff, but I think it should be more like:

    Democrats are the over-protective parent.
    Republicans are the step-parent.

My logic is the democrats want to make sure everybody is treated well, but often take it to an extreme.

Republicans on the other hand, don't mind helping a little, as long as it doesn't take too much time or money out of their pockets. They also want you to follow their rules too (e.g. pro-life, prayer in school, etc.).
I agree with you here. Neither party has it totally right, but no candidate, regardless of party affiliation, will ever be all things to all people.

It's always amazing to me how many BBS philosophers can say other people are out of touch or are idiots. Very productive. Most comments like that say more about the person making them than they do the people they're talking about.

What do we mean by improved social programs? Even if you agree with what he says, what has given anyone the impression that Gore would be able to accomplish anything? Most Democrats don't think Gore is better than Clinton. If Clinton couldn't get these things done, what makes people think Gore will?

Ummm, I know I'm not the smartest person on earth, being a product of HISD and the University of Texas, but I do happen to know that Clinton's first State of the Union address was in 1993.

And I didn't even need a lifeline to answer it, either! [IMG] [IMG]

Aaack! You are right! -- The 1993 speech is what I looked up, and took those goals from. Thank you.

I should proofread better. Oh well, I guess it comes from being a product of our crappy public school system. [IMG]

To understand why some of us who are intellegent and choose liberalism, Pole, requires that you understand the nature of the beliefs that lead us to that end.

My intellect is completely intertwined with my world view. I have a hard time looking at the world around me and seeing it without noticing that everything that is of real value costs nothing - the air, the sky, the trees, the birds, whatever. I see real value in the things that cannot be bought and little value in things that can be.

That is simply a reverse of what conservatives tend to believe with religious beliefs being the only obvious exception to that rule.

As a result, I care about the Rockets not because of how much money they put into the community, for example, but because of how much joy they bring me personally and those around me.

It is the same reason why it is difficult for me to pass a homeless person without looking at them and giving them something. Or why it is nearly impossible for me to read about abuse of another human or an animal without feeling very angry or very sad.

It is the nature of being who I am.

Nope. They just want to make the rich richer, the poor poorer, wreck the economy in the process, tell women what to do with their bodies, and stuff Christianity and the bible down the throats of every American citizen. Why else do you think Bush's advisors include clowns like Ralph Reed?

    Whatever!

MadMax, I assume you're referring to my post? My comment was simply a rebuttal to Freak's ridiculous post, that just because someone disagreed with him that IQ tests should be mandatory to vote.

Why is it ridiculous to want someone who predicts we will be at war in 3 years because of Bush to take an IQ test before voting? You call that a simple disagreement?

Liberty? Call the shots? Is that why Bush and most conservatives support the criminalization of homosexuality?

    Freak,

Even if there should be a poll test, you are living proof that a person of reasonable intelligence can have whacked out views.

Why is it OK for you to predict Clinton would bomb a country to help Gore's campaign and not OK for River to predict a war under a Bush administration?

Besides last I checked IQ tests aren't required of voters and I hope they never will be.

It's funny how I suggest an IQ test for voters and get hammered, but someone like Rimbaud or CriscoKidd -- or another one of heypartner's proteges, I can't remember -- starts a thread on it and it's a good idea. You people are out to assassinate my character, and I will not participate. I can see first-hand now what a dirty business politics is, and what we need is a good-hearted compassionate conservative like George W. to put an end to all this politics of personal destruction and bring people together. I'd rather come together than continue all this bickering. This place is just like Washington DC.

outlaw -- It's okay for me to do that because Clinton has already initiated a politically-motivated attack. I think it's pretty obvious that Bush and Gore are not as power-hungry and shameless as Clinton.

Man, my posts are starting to look like Rocketman Tex's. May be time to take a break soon... [IMG] All this politics of personal destruction is wearing me down!

Oh, and sorry Rocket River. I don't think you're dumb (not that you should care what I think). [IMG]

i couldn't believe Gore let Bush get away with saying this during the debate:

Al should have pounced on that.

Huh? Criminalization? Bush and Gore's opinions on homosexuality are exactly the same. And Cheney's, and Lieberman's.

And who was it that signed the bill declaring marriage a union between a man and a woman only? That's right, our savior Mr. Clinton.

    Freak,

    A few things:

It was my thread about the poll test (dripping with sarcasm). It was really just a frustration thread about a presidential debate, anyway.

Why am I a heypartner protegé? Was that just an attempt to belittle me?

For the record, I am much smarter than he is and could never be considered a follower of his. [IMG]

I think you have some self-esteem problems - you seem to think everyone is laughing at you. [IMG]

No offense taking. . .Honestly I see this as
light hearted political Jabber. . . no biggie

The think about IQ test is that I could have
sparked a nerve [but it did not] because that
was one of the ways they tried to bar Black
People from voting. [Then the test were not
    fair or even realistic.

You know what is Funny . .. IF they made the
    test and asked things like.
WHAT IS THE CAPITAL OFTHE 50 STATES
NAME THE ORDER THEY BECAME STATES
NAME ALL THE PRESIDENTS . . IN ORDER

    NAME 20 CONGRESSMEN

How many would pass. . . that is vital
stuff that is part of being american but
honestly no one cares about it.

Like I said I'm neither Demo or Repub.
I don't like Bush. He does not appear to
be too bright or honestly. . . too compassionate.
I don't think Gore is all that either.

The thing about politics is this
WE AGREE ON ALOT OF THINGS
    but
The things we disagree on are explosive.

    Abortion -
    Military
    Gun Control
    Welfare

    The biggies. . . .

    Rocket River
