Have you watched JVGs offenses? It basically either was T-Mac iso or dumping it into the post to Yao - when he got fronted we had no idea how to get him the ball. JVG more than anyone played his stars - give them the ball and let them decide what to do. There hardly were any real set plays. I love JVG, he is a great guy and an extraordinary defensive coach - but if you are not satisfied with McHales offense you definetly won`t be satisfied with JVGs. McHale at least showed last season, that he can draw up a great looking and very efficient offense that perfectly fits the players. This season he is struggling, strangely because he can`t really draw up plays that include our star big man. And sure, he is not the master of set plays or ingame adjustments. But if you give him some time with this team, I am sure he will find out how to use Dwight.
JVG would be a great coach. He has learned more stuff now by watching and analyzing games. With Dwight, no better coach than utilize our big in the proper way. Boring, or not, his offense wins game in the postseason.
My memory serves just fine. I never said JVG brought those players, just that when he had offensive players, we had a good offense. Morey isn't the type of GM that lets coaches dictate personnel moves, so JVG's player preferences wouldn't be an issue now. And as far as developing young talent, I said Van Gundy had some major issues and in no way advocated that we hire him. I wonder if you fully read my post...
what we need is: (a) get a F/C for asik that can fit next to dwight. (b) an upgrade to a championship coach any coach like JVG, SVG, adelman, phil, sloan, karl, nate mcmillan had great success with the blazers, lionel hollins, i could go on... plenty of coaches out there that can take this team to the next level.
JVG would get our defense right. Our offense might be in trouble though. We would probably win more games in the regular season with JVG, just because of our improved defense alone. Can't believe we had two 50-win teams with guys like Ryan Bowen, Juwan Howard, Scott Padget, David Wesley, Jon Barry, etc. playing huge roles. He got a lot out of crappy players, that's for sure.

I would love to have JVG back. He is a great Rockets supporter and always stays in touch with Morey. I don't like what Mchale is doing but I think you have to give him the rest of the season to see how he does. I think at that point if he doesn't perform, then you gave him three years and it's time to move on.
So according to ClutchFans, ISO-ball is pretty much the worst thing to ever happen to professional basketball, and oh by the way we need I hire JVG, whose offense consisted entirely of Yao and McGrady isolations. Got it. 2003-04: "JVG hates Steve! Our offense sucks! Fire JVG!!" 2013-14: "McFail hates Lin! Our offense sucks! Fire McFail!"
If JVG ever coached the Rockets, LOFs just might kill themselves. JVG is the ultimate "safety first" coach that will run Harden iso all night long and have Lin set up at the top of the key to lead the transition defense. He would also pull Lin after a single turnover to put in Beverley. Not that I think about it, maybe not a bad idea.:grin:
I like JVG as a broadcaster more. I'd give McHale a little more time as he seems to be willing to employ changes in the last game.
