Odd way to start his blog considering the "study" (more of an experiment, it seems) doesn't address all of the indicators to which scientists point and, even according to this writer, the hockey stick "may be" due to statistical methods. Major blow?

Call me crazy but I put more stock in the top climate scientists than some computer programmer who writes blogs.

ohhh, well what would you say if that computer programmer was backed by mass-market paperback phenom, and creator of Jurassic Park...MICHAEL CRICHTON? Not enough firepower for you? Well it is for Mr. JOHN STOSSEL.

Isn't it more than just climate change? Isn't the ozone dissapearing? Aren't pollutant levels reaching unbelievable levels?

Maybe high pollutant levels aren't all that bad and we are all crazy for thinking so....on the other hand, pollutants, by definition, are bad, so we should probably be worried.

The ozone layer was disappearing then we made a change [we took action] and significantly reduced CFC emissions -- now the ozone hole is closing.

The scientists linked CFC's to ozone depletion -- the lobbyists and big industry said no it was a natural occurrence. The scientists were right.

The scientists are right today on global warming as well.

Sometimes I think America only likes scientists who build bigger bombs.

The Earth does go through natural warming and cooling trends, but I think it is becoming painfully evident that humans are lending a helping hand to the current warming trend. The melting in the Artic is accellerating. The time to act is now.

How can anyone ignore the effect of pollutants on greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and subsequent ozone layer depletion?

While America consumes more than any other country in the world, if you ever visit a 3rd World country, you can see how bad some of the pollution really is. In Manila, you literally have to walk down the street with a handkerchief over your mouth in some places to avoid from inhaling toxic fumes. Ditto Bangkok and Dhaka, Bangladesh, where toxins from factories are even pouring into the rivers and contaminating ground water. Any anyone who has flown over Mexico City has surely seen the brown smog stuck between the mountains.

It's going to take another 30 years for the ozone to close. The hole we have today is the result of CFCs released in the 70s. It takes that long for the CFCs to reach the stratosphere and break down.

Its another example of the next generation facing the consequences of the last.

Scientists expect it to be closed completely by 2050 (if all countries stop using by 2010) -- so basically the majority of the 20th century was spent pumping out the CFC's and opening the hole and another 50+ years to close the hole after the ban.

Glad we took action when we did.

This may be a way to defeat the terrorists. If we can cause an ice age to start in the Middle East, then we could freeze them to death at the bottom of the caves. I think we need to pollute more.
