"Franchise center." If you have not noticed our lack of skilled big men. We need a shot blocking center that can rebound. Offense is not the problem.
Dalembert came for free as he was a FA. Hawes would have cost some kind of asset, whether it is Courtney Lee or C-bud or a draftpick. Dalembert for just $$$ or Hawes for assets and $$$, gee I wonder which center the Rox should have gotten?
Spencer isn't elite at anything, rebounding, offense, or defense. Obviously he's better than what we have but by no means is he a "franchise C"
i picked Hawes up in about the 11th round of my fantasy hoops draft for some depth at center. He has well and truly outperformed all my other scrub bigs this season. Like our Kyle, he was one assist shy of a triple-double in a game this season.
Hawes is not that good and I wouldn't read too much into his early numbers. I would rather pay Greg Stiemsma peanuts and get 90% of what Hawes offers you at a far cheaper price. ...seriously - have you guys seen Stiemsma play with the Celtics? Dude has been crazy entertaining to watch - blocking shots, hitting jumpers, rebounding, hustling on every play, and just all around playing feisty. I normally hate the Celtics but that goofy looking 26yr old rookie makes them fun to watch for 20/25 minutes a game.
The Rockets could use another C on the bench. They could use a heavier guy, not players with their weight stretched out like Dalembert and Thabeet. A player with Fesenko's size causes wear and tear on opponents. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/player/hollinger/_/id/3205
