Tonight, Yao, Scola, and Landry all played 30+ minutes. I am pretty sure Adelman will stick with this 3-man frontline rotation most of the time. I think all the combinations Yao-Scola, Yao-Landry, and Scola-Landry fit well together. The combined 96 minutes of the 4 and 5 position give the three of them an average of 32 minutes a game. If you give Hayes and Artest (and maybe Mutombo) some spot minutes at the 4 for defensive purposes, Then both Scola and Landry can easily get somewhere around 25-30 mpg. I am pretty comfortable with this rotation. It's the perimeter rotation I am worried about.
His PER is 17.9 this year, which is better than Paul Millsap. Considering Millsap has had the paint to himself for the most part in Boozer's absence and Landry has to share with Yao and Scola, that's pretty impressive.
Landry's ceiling is probably a borderline star who has a chance to be an all-star once or twice. David West's current level is probably a good target. Carl probably will never be a dominant superstar because of his lack of size. Landry has a lot of good things going for him. He's a very coachable player and works extremely hard, which will allow him to continue to improve his game year and year. I look foward to seeing Landry wearing a Rockets uniform for a long time. For now, he needs to become more consistent. I'll make a bold statement: Scola and Landry make the best one-two punch PF combo in the league right now, barring none.
Landry was great tonight aswell... where is the Carl Landry Appreciation Thread? it must have come and gone a long time ago...
Its all about playingtime. If you send Landry to Minnesota or to Sacramento, and they are waiting for him with a Parade like he is the Messiah he is going to play banana's!! Put this guy at starting PF, call him your hero and feed him with some pick and roll's all day and he will develop at "all-star" level. However, I doubt he will be anywhere near that if he is a backup on a "contending" team. He is good trading bait - or prospect. Thats the Rox organisation to decide. I see us like a poor-man's Blazers in that we have some very good young potential. Brooks, Landry and now Lowry are all 3 prospects that could become legit starters. I emphasize the legit because Brooks is already starting.
him and luis are probably playing as well as any PF pairs in the league. it's too bad their not 6'10. having artest and especially Yao are very beneficial, playing next to them has helped them get some easy looks.
I would like to see landry add some 3pt range to his game. which would allow him to draw his defenders out a bit. U can tell by last night's game that many of his defenders just stuffed the paint when landry has the ball. therefore he saw some wide open 18 footers from him.
Landry has great potential, put him on a team as a starter I bet he averages 15 - 18ppg...his open jumper is almost automatic.
So who do you leave in the game late in crunch time? Scola or Landry? I guess its good to have these kinds of problems. I wouldnt mind having both instead of Yao to be honest. Those two together just make things happen.
Landy+Scola went a combined 17-26 fg, 22 rb, 8-8 ft, 3 blocks, 3 assists, 42 points. Name me a team with a better pf rotation.
I disagree, Odom tends to disappear when playing behind Bynum or Gasol. Also, Gasol does his best impression of Dirk Nowitzki in the playoffs.
