Oh and that reminds me, they don't play crap from No Doubt on 94.5. The stations in Houston that play New new No Doubt are 104, and 96.5.
The originial is great. Great video also. If you watched MTV in the early '80s you would maybe understand.
I'm astounded that you think that the original is crap!! I mean Talk Talk was a classic '80s group. They had that song and "Talk Talk". They were never a band like No Doubt that were big pop stars. To me, "It's my Life" was a great quirky, one hit wonderesque type song. And the video was even better - very unusual (showed all kinds of different animals moving around). The next thing we will hear is some pop group covering "Come on Eileen" or "99 Luftballoons" or "Mickey" or some other great one hit wonder song of the '80s. Those songs are sacred and should not be touched, especially by a band like No Doubt.
I think Goldfinger already touched 99 luftballoons. unless you were being sarcastic and some band already has covered those songs, and i'm a boner and did not know it.
Yeah, but I kinda think of them differently. They're a ska band, and they didn't just re-sing it, they threw a ska sound onto it. Reel Big Fish did some covers of Duran Duran soungs with ska sound. It sounds a lot different - it's more tongue-in-cheek wierd-al-ish. For some reason, it doesn't sound as much of a rip-off. eh... Clearchannel is destroying radio. Bands can't come up with decent and original music now, so they have to rip off old songs. Hollywood can't come up with decent and orignial movie ideas, so they have to do re-makes. Currently, there's a remake in the works for The Pink Panther which will have Steve Martin as inspector Clouseau. Excuse me while I puke. -- droxford
This is their latest US release, it must be a best of or something. Because the song is on their record "razorblade romance" from 2000. Funny.
the one and only coverversion of 99 Luftballons that is ok is the one from the mighty "7 seconds". Man, you can't believe how much of a NENA fan I was as a kid. I had 35 posters in my room and had every record. I still goosebumps when I listen to their records (NENA). My first muscial loveaffair*. *except: WASP (I wanna be somebody) and Motley Crue (Smoking in the boys room)** ** which is another bad coverversion
I don't really get the outrage here. The Beatles and the Stones both started out as cover bands. Dylan only did covers originally too, and his first record only had two originals on it. Also, I'm a big Who fan from way back, but Behind Blue Eyes is as corny as it is great. I can't imagine how someone could 'ruin' it. Kind of like ruining a cover of Beth.
I believe it’s less about ruining that particular song, and more about having to deal with another Limp Bizkit production. Only this production is a remake of a song by a band that a lot of us love. In the end, it’s pretty much about the dislike of Limp Bizkit and everything they represent, imho.
That is part of it and in the case of "It's my Life", it is the song that made that band. I mean who would have heard of Talk Talk if it wasn't for that song?? It is almost that is THEIR song. No Doubt has plenty of songs; they didn't have to take the one song of some obscure '80s band.
I'm not mad, I just think there is an unusual amount of them out right now. I have no prejudice of cover songs or bands.
I personally can't believe that Manny thinks 'Mickey' is a sacred classic. Tony Basil......ugh.... and as far as weird ska covers that I found and think are pretty funny... Reel Big Fish did 'Kiss Me Deadly' Thumper did 'The Trooper' Less Than Jake did 'We're Not Gonna Take It' Johnny Socko did 'Don't Tell Me You Love Me' at least two of those are more of a classic than Mickey....
Weren't Steve and Jeff the old morning guys? I always thought they were pretty lame and annoying, like I was too old to be in their target audience... as an 18 year old... But yeah I really dig Rod Ryan, I listened to him all throughout high school in the mornings living in New Orleans and thought it was awesome when I suddenly found him on my radio in Houston.
Actually, it's worse. I can't comprehend how people actually think that cover is good, just atrocious sounding. The Buzz used to be good like in the late 90's. There isn't much new, good music coming out that's played on the radio, but some of the stations around here manage to get it right sometimes. OH, NO WAY! I gotta hear this. haha
I remember when the Buzz first came on. It was strange to hear Nirvana, Soundgarden, Chili Peppers, etc. on mainstream radio. We were laughing about it. Bands I was into for years but never heard on the radio before now had their own station. But it was only a select few bands. I kind of consider it the beginning of the end of that movement. Then "swing" got popular and I almost had to kill myself.
