Average MLB rookie age is 24
Chris Johnson was 24 last year when he started
Brett Wallace will turn 24 later in the season.

I'm sure most teams realize that.

This is completely wrong. Garner was the one yanking him in and out of the lineup. Garner did not like to play Scott vs. lefties.

Every time Scott would have a couple of solid games, Garner would sit him for 2 to 3 games. Scott never did get a real chance at being a consistent starter, despite showing more promise at the plate than any of our other young hitters.

I even remember stretches where Scott wasn't getting playing time despite being on a hot stretch, and Scott said he wasn't injured or anything, that it was manager's discretion.

Scott was a trooper. Dikembe Mutumbo has never fouled and Scott was never injured if you ask them.

In 2006, Scott came up on July 14th. With the exception of a 3 game stretch the week he first came up, he only did not start two games in a row once. Overall in that stretch (after his first week) he only had 8 DNPs and another 4 when he pinch hit.

In 2007 he had a 6 game stretch with 3 DNPs and 3 pinch hitting appearances. Prior to that, he was on a 2-19 tear. Later that year he did have a stretch of 5 games in which he did not start. He was on an 8-20 roll immediately prior to that. Perhaps that is the one incident you are thinking of.

June 10-14: 4 straight days of pinch hitting, after a hot streak
Aug 1-3, 3 straight days of pinch hitting, after a hot streak
Aug 16-19, 3 straight days of pinch hitting, after a hot streak

He also had two pinch-hit-streaks when he was in a mini 2 or 3 day slump.

But regardless, it goes to the question of whether he was being sat voluntarily or due to injuries. Given that he had a ton of games where he pinch hit (28), it seems that at least a lot of them were just situations where he was sat voluntarily. On the flipside, he played 132 games total, so he didn't play in 30 games - the reason is not clear there, whether it was injury or there was just never a good PH need/opportunity.

It's hard to say the major league club would be tired of his injuries based on that, given that it was only his first full season. But I don't know what his minor league history was.

The higher likelihood was that they had high hopes for Pence in right field after his great rookie season, brought in Bourn for centerfield defense, and had Lee planted in LF. So they moved Luke Scott. And he played 150 games for Baltimore the next year, most of it in the field.

The June streak was the one I referenced when I wrote that he had been on the 8-20 roll.

I missed the August ones because I thought Garner had been fired by then, but it was late August when that happened.

I still can't stop looking at Wallace's huge legs when he is at the plate.

Does anyone in the MLB have bigger legs than he does?
