Certainly not dying, but it's not growing either like the other big sports are. The lack of a governing body really hurts the sport. Far too many weight classes, and far too many belts to the point where they feel like complete afterthoughts.
boxing has it's problems but it doesn't really need to "grow". boxing is already established and popular worldwide. not to mention boxers (not just mayweather and pacquiao) are still paid more than other fighters from other fighting genres. wladimir klitschko sells out arenas in europe and just sold out MSG
But in 20 years when all of these teens who are being raised on MMA start to become the primary consumer base, will Boxing still be the most popular? I'm not saying it's time to panic, but I see legit long term problems for the sport. Particularly when guys like Mayweather win painfully boring fights.
you underestimate it's popularity overseas (and central america). carl froch v george groves at wembley. i guess we'll have to wait 20 years then. when some of those teens see how much boxers make compared to mma fighters and how dana white pays his fighters in chump change maybe they'll have a change of opinion.

Great fight. After the first half round, I knew it was going to be short, but fun to watch. I was very impressed to hear there was 30K+ people there. That is freaking awesome.
Canelo by KO, easy money. Kirkland gets hit alot and like max said, couldnt overcome him, dude has boxing skill to go with power, just struggles to pin down Lara types
amir khan is a bum with a glass jaw. algieri shouldn't be a springboard for any major fight. prodnikov's shown he's limited fighter and has been worked out. too much credit for winning a belt from prodnikov.
USA will always be the main market for boxing worldwide. Boxing won't be popular as it can be until it gets a US heavyweight champion again. That's just how it goes.
Taishan, Chinese heavyweight boxer. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rqgAvdDMI_k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is so silly. People have been saying the same thing about how boxing is dying or not growing for the last 20 years. And hey, boxing is still here even after the last great American heavyweight draw is long gone. It actually did their biggest numbers ever, and it didn't include one heavyweight. Mayweather isn't the first guy that the mainstream considered "boring". People use to say Ali was boring too. Larry Merchant said it best "Nothing can save boxing and nothing will kill boxing." If you are waiting for boxing to die, don't hold your breath. Will MMA take over in 20 years? Thats though to say. If anybody should panic, shouldn't it be UFC? PPV numbers have been declining, not rising, since 2010. I can see why Dana went so hard for Brock. One can make a joke that UFC is dead after Ronda Rousey is gone lol Boxing is more accessible now, more than ever. You have your usual outlets of boxing on premium cable channels and basic cable. Now we even have boxing back at Saturday afternoon network tv and prime time on NBC. Just this month alone, the biggest names in boxing, are fighting every week. Canelo-Kirkland pulled in 2M+ viewers for their fight this past weekend on HBO. Thats the highest for HBO since 2006. The may-pac reply right before did 1 mill by itself, then jumped another million plus for the fight. Thats impressive. Not to mention the 30k+ that showed up to MM Park. All this, a week after boxing supposedly died....again. Boxing is dead? lol OK.
I originally thought Canelo/Kirkland were crazy for fighting right after May/Pac, but they were geniuses. The replay probably brought more viewers on HBO, they knew the May/Pac fight would probably be boring, and people would be wanting more action. They really nailed it with that fight. It's too bad one guy had to lose.
lol at mayweather sr. calling ggg a "giant". yes, there is a weight difference. however it's laughable to give that reason for that fight not to happen when both canelo and golovkin rehydrate to the same weight on fight night.
