What an idiotic cartoon. President Ike bowed before Charles de Gaulle of France. Nixon bowed before Emperor Hirohito the guy who attacked the US, and he did it on US soil
not at all. as i said in the OP, the point of making a thread about it was that it apparently embarrassed the Japanese. I think it's a bit undignified, but that wasn't really the point of the thread.
which was the bow wasn't performed correctly, which the original article thinks is worse than borderline sexual harrassment. ummmkay
in this context, it really is quite embarrassing: <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5U6fL7Y4BZA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5U6fL7Y4BZA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>
I think when the wing-nuts are complaining about Obama's bow that it's a good sign he's doing a really good job since they clearly don't have anything worthy to complain about.
When I first arrived to the US I was taken aback by my peers' sheer ignorance of culture outside of the state and especially outside the US. Nothing has changed in all these years. And I'm going to say it again, that bow looked like a rookie trying to flex a weak cultural muscle. It just looked weak...too weak for a president. But alas, you relate a bow to a wave.
Got it. You're being funny. So I'll laugh. Come on, dude. Why can't you just except the fact that I respect the bow and have a definite opinion of it. Sheeeesh. Are you calling me out because I respect a different culture? Are you calling me out because I'm a republican with a liberal agenda for myself? Are you calling me out because I'm older? Dude, I am who I am and all your little comments, well, they're just that, little.
is there a culture where being sick, losing consciousness, and throwing up on someone is a sign of strength?
I don't know about everyone else, but what I get out of Barry's bow is that his form was completely jacked up. In Asian culture you don't bow like Daniel-san in the Karate Kid. Just slightly at the waist, not lurching forward completely. Nixon got it right. That's all. Trying to read anything else between the lines is borderline r****ded.
