Name the last time a great player took more money to play with a team he didn't want to play for. Yao chose the Rox because he liked the Rox the most out of the teams that offered him the max. It's the borderline star players, like Turkoglu and Elton Brand, who take huge money to join bad teams that may not have the best situation for him, and then quit on their teams or underperform. That's their personality, and that's why they're not great players. Great players have a will to win- they don't play for contracts. Bosh does have the right to make as much money as he can, but I predict he would not choose us just because we can offer more money. He might choose us because he feels we value him higher or respect him more than other teams do, have a great team and great locker room, or is a great city to live in. Would you choose to work with Company A- a company that offers you 100k in salary a year and treats you awfully, has a bunch of terrible coworkers, bad boss, that does unethical things and in general you disdain, or Company B- a company that offers you a 80k salary but has everything else you ever wanted?
its not that cut and dry, and i dont think he has a real allegiance to any one team. an example better representative of bosh's situation: company A - salary of 80k: middle management at an average but flashy company that your old company (which you hated) doesn't want you to go to. you get to work under your hotshot friend and potentially turn the company around. OR company B - salary of 100k: top dog at a pretty successful and established company, where you could potentially be at the top of your field for a long time, but your old company (which you hated) would benefit from your move somehow. harder decision now?
But I'm going by which teams Bosh has publicly stated interest in. He's mentioned glowingly the Heat and Chicago, and a few other teams as well I believe. He's never said anything positive about the Rockets publicly. So based on that, I would think that it is more cut and dry, and it's just money vs. preference. Your analysis is more from an objective perspective, from the average fan's. But it's really about Bosh's perspective, and it's hard to know what's most important to him just by looking at the teams' situations from our fan perspective. The only clues we can somewhat rely on as to who he's considering is his own public statements.
Rockets, you have until tomorrow at 3:17 pm to offer me a max deal, or there is no way I am signing with you.
An ultimatum would only work if we actually had a reason for taking a S&T deal off the table, like a different trade in the works that would make the Bosh deal impossible or undesirable. Doesn't really matter if it's a better deal, only that we'd rather go with the backup plan then walk away with nothing. I'm kinda doubtful that there is such a deal though. As well, Bosh would have to be in a state where he was concerned about getting nothing as well. If he wants that extra 6th year badly enough, then he may opt for the Houston deal if he's afraid his backup plan will disappear. I'm doubtful of that though as I think there are other important factors for him. It's still all just speculation though. I would not be surprised if things change drasitically by the end of the day.
