If you want to run a high post offense based around him facing up and draining jumpers from the top of the key - yes. That's why the Rockets offered him a maximum contract and were prepared to make him the cornerstone of the franchise.
Put Bosh in this team and he would be earning his contract from a statistical stand point (not sure about the intangibles) Put Scola on that team and his scoring takes a 10 dipp. What I don't get is Bosh's terrible rebounding numbers. I bet when Pat Riley signed him he was thinking hmm this is our Kareem (as in the role, not the player), he didn't sign Bosh to be Andrea freaking Barg-"nanny."
I think Bosh's pedestrian numbers belie his actual impact on the team. Bosh has actually fit in better than Dwyane Wade has according to Coach Nick on bballbreakdown (and also according to the +/- stats, if you put any stock in that stuff).
Bosh's numbers are coming around, up to 18 ppg and almost 8 boards a game. The guy was never a tough interior defender which is why I didn't like the fit for Miami but he will eventually get back up to 20-10. The question is the mental toughness he will show, come playoff time will he step up or shrink during those crucial moments. Miami needs him to complement the other two guys because after him that rotation isn't very good.
The problem that i have with this reasoning is that Scola has proven that he can also hit those jumpers and can drive to the basket. He's not the BEST passer, but he isnt horrendous either. He has the the ability to post-up as well. Just cuz he's not hitting turn-around fadeaways doesn't mean he's bad in the low-post. I think Scola's intangibles at what we're paying him makes him a much better deal. And the problem with having an "alpha-dog" is that more often than not, they're not gonna do the dirty work (see Tracy McGrady). Scola's game is based on hustle and dirty work.
Scola is great but the high post initiator is without a doubt THE most important role in Adelmans motion offense. The passing, shooting, stand-alone skills and pnr finishing ability are greatly amplified in this role. Bosh has the skill set to essentially to take Chuck, Scola and Millers offensive strengths and roll them together into one player. Make no mistake, our offense was built for a player like Bosh and he would excel here. Dirty work players are far easier to come by than Chris Bosh'es.
Dirty work players who can also score are not that easy to find. In general I agree that Bosh would be better than Scola in Adelman's system. But Bosh makes more than double what Scola makes. Is he really more than twice better than Scola? I think it is very debatable whether we are better off having ended up with Scola rather than Bosh. (For the record, I REALLY wanted to get Bosh in the summer.) The key question is, should we take a high end role player in Scola or should we take a max player in Bosh. The thing about Bosh is, is he really a franchise player? Is it more sensible to give a max contract to someone who can actually carry the team on his back?
Thats not relative. Thats like saying is Kobe Bryant twice as good as Kevin Martin. No, probably not. But pay scales are about more than how good a player is. Its about how well they fit. I don't think it is debatable at all, since it was never either having Bosh or Scola, it was about having both. Is Bosh a franchise player? Who knows? But we do know he has been pretty damn good in two systems that are just awful for him. Having a system specifically built to his strengths and weaknesses would been a dream come true.
The real debacle this offseason was not getting Amare, who we could have had for Scola + worthless players. Morey didn't have the balls to make a blockbuster deal though.
I hope one of the rockets takes out bosh and lebron when we play heat later this month. If I was playing I would grab lebron by neck and air tackle him to the ground.
I was never on the Bosh bandwagon and was happy to see him skip out on Houston. The guy is a fraud in a major way. I remember he was called "McGrady at the PF" many times on this forum (and maybe even by me) but that was an insult to Tracy McGrady's skills and even McGrady's mental toughness. Bosh is a joke.
