Without singling one person out there's lots of good work in this thread so far.

With Bosh being 30 do y'all think we are giving to much for him.

Im with Carl Herrera, got to get rid of Harden and his contract to make room for Bosh, Parsons and company. Get a decent cheaper 2 like Shumpert and the Rox are set.

Never heard of this hard-cap before. Can someone go into details? Since TDaniels is now a RFA, if no team offers him anything, do we just get him at his qualifying offer of (?) for one year then he's a free agent?

Can we just cut Daniels or will his cap hold remain no matter what?

I don't think the S&T option is too viable - a lot of factors involved and having teams trim the fat from our team while we hedge all our bets on the present. It'd be nice to have some of our draft picks still as insurance.

Either way, we'll see tomorrow when Bosh makes his decision. If he wants absolutely the max he can get, then it will be tricky. Hopefully he'll take what we can give him in free agency and sell him on the possible Chinese sponsors he'll easily make up in lost 'max' money.

Can someone list all the exceptions we have available to us as a time right now?
    Where is this information available?

I know from the Asik trade we have a Traded Player Exception to use for a trade..

We have the MLE, rookie exceptions (really want to get Nick Johnson on the squad)...

    Bi-annual exception too?

That would be great but Shumpert isn't enough. Harden must be replaced with a shot creator and yet is defensively capable. This is the problem, there isn't anybody available who's like that. There's one I can think of but I'm afraid he's too hated here even to mention. Let's hope one of the rookies develop nicely.

Should the Rockets go in to this viewing the hard cap as a temporary inconvenience given the projections of the cap bumping 15-20MM in a couple years?

It's literally temporary, hard capping the Rockets until July 2015. A bigger inconvenience though is only having five players on the team.

    Good job, CH.

There is always a chance that the salary cap could come in a bit higher than expected, making up the difference to give Bosh the max on a team with Dwight, Harden, Parsons and Beverley. I'm also guessing, like others, that a few hundred thousand dollars will be a manageable pay cut for Bosh if it means the Rockets could keep Beverley.

One minor point (not really a big deal), but for purposes of determining whether the Rockets are over the apron level, every rookie minimum or one-year vet minimum player who was not a second round pick will count as $915,243 (the two-year vet minimum). Therefore, I think Canaan and Johnson would count at their actual salaries, but Covington would count an extra $100k or so towards the hard cap.

I believe that, depending on what Parsons makes in the first year of his new deal, the Rockets could probably field a deeper roster by acquiring Bosh via S&T. (Remember, because the Rockets can offer Parsons 7.5% annual raises, they could maybe "match" another team's offer in total salary while paying Parsons slightly less in the first year.)

Hypothetically, a S&T allows the Rockets to keep Jones, D-Mo, Canaan and Covington (whichever of those are not used in the S&T). The Rockets could then use (some of) the Non-Taxpayer MLE ($5.3M) to split among Troy Daniels, Nick Johnson and an outside free agent to lock them in to long-term deals. The Rockets will need to walk a tightrope throughout the year and hope that their (still-young) team stays relatively healthy. But it would potentially be a better team...assuming the "S&T asking price" isn't too steep.

Even if the Rockets dump enough guys to sign Bosh outright, they'll still be able to field a decent roster. Their starting five would be maybe the best in the NBA. They will still have the Room Exception ($2.8M) to offer a third- or fourth-tier free agent to play on the cheap (or maybe offer it to Daniels). The rest will be for vet minimum guys. I fully expect Francisco Garcia to be back (I know, don't all applaud at once). But with an even better contending team than last summer, the Rockets would be able to find a caliber of free agent at least a cut above the Omri Casspi's and Garcia's of the world.

Either way, SIGN ME UP FOR CHRIS BOSH!

Everyone knows that the addition of Bosh to this roster is a monster move but the subtraction of Harden subtracts more than they add with Bosh. If you suggest losing Harden for Bosh than you need to go her your head checked.

Even Carl, probably the biggest "trade Harden" advocate in the GARM didn't exactly come out and endorse moving him in this thread even if subliminally that's what he's insinuating. I think even he knows that's a bad move.

Bosh needs to go back to being his own man. He was a lot more likable when he was doing allstar advertising in a cowboy hat and pulling 24 and 11 with the raptors.

Is there any chance that Francisco will sign for applause so we can continue to bolster our roster with other veterans that want dollars?

Besides the obvious fact that Bosh doesn't come here if Harden isn't here.

If I had to guess, Houston's offer probably starts at 19.2m to accommodate keeping Jones (who would be Bosh's backup primarily, and hence allow Bosh's minutes to be 5-6 lower, leading among other things to a longer career) for about 4 year $82m, there's also a possibly there's a further amount kept off to allow keeping Daniels, but I wouldn't be as confident with that which would make it closer to 4 year $80m (which is why I think Woj has put it at 80m+).

Have you guys seen Bosh's numbers when LeBron and Wade are both out? He's a boss. Capable of scoring 30+ each night.

    1. I agree that getting Bosh is worth it overall. Just wanted to point out that there are certain costs to the signing that folks may not be considering.

    2. On the topic of how the hard cap works and the reason for it, see here: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q28

Maybe what Morey has told Bosh is if Miami will sign and trade you we will happily pay the max but if they won't we will give you just below starting at 19-20M?

So the report that comes out is Houston has offered to max which wouldn't be untrue and would help with Bosh's leverage with Miami if Lebron comes back.

better draft some more Greek players, due to hardship in their native city-states, they require only a bed of straw to lay down on and a bowl of lentils a day.

I don't think either of those gets you above the Apron.
