I think Horry had no ball handling skills so his game was limited. He could never take someone off the dribble. He started as a real good passer, slasher/dunker, 3point shooter. Then he bulked up a lot to play power forward, which I think diminished his slashing and dunking abilities. Great, great role player...
Pimp, Horry was interviewed when he was a Rocket and he said the biggest thing that he had a problem with was that he didn't work on his game enough. He played to his strengths...agreed, but he NEVER improved his weaknesses, as someone who alluded to he never could take someone off the dribble? Well....what does that say? He never worked on that weakness, the great players are always adding something to their game, and that is what seperates them. Horry could have been even better, as could Mo Taylor and a lot of other NBA players, but they get satisfied with just being there. Big difference. DD
The fact that you are pimping a chump with career averages of2.9 ppg on 33% shooting, who gets spanked by scrubs like Gerald Wallace in preseason and summer league games, and who generally looked incompetent and clueless for the better part of 2.5 seasons exhibits your skills in this area nicely. "but he never had a chance"! wah. He had plenty of chances, he just sucked too much to capitalize on them. Sad but true.
Boki played garbage minutes, and never had the opportunity to show his skills. The guy is only 22 or 23 years old and normally would be a rookie, and you are already giving up on him, proving that the only chump in this discussion is you Sam. Boki has skills, no one is saying he is an all star, but he will develop into a complimentary role player in the NBA. If you care to wager on it, big boy...I will be happy to take some of your hard earned green. Better yet, a Tip Jar wager....what say you, oh sageless one? DD
wahhh, he never had a chance, waaaaah, its not his fault he sucks cause he never had a chance. Did you ever watch him? The guy got 5 or 6 starts while he was here and did very close to nothing in those starts. He hit a few three's earlier this year and had his moment of glory vs. LA last year, but that was it. He was otherwise awful, and he didn't get a chance, because he sucked. Did you watch preseason or the summer league games when he played in them? He got outplayed and embarrassed by marginal NBA talents like Gerald Wallace and Ryan Bowen. He sucked then, and barring a miracle he will suck now. "he has skills", What skills? I know that you've been propagating in your content-free, logic free, ultra prolific posts about how he's got the skills to be a "complimentary" player for the last week. What skills are these that you refer to? He's not much of a shooter. He doesn't defend that well. He is not a good rebounder, despite the fact that you were peddling the bogus line that he was last week He isn't much of a ballhandler. He isn't an exceptional passer. NOw, what skills are you referring to? Oh, but wait, he's 23. Big deal. Other NBA players from both College and International are drafted at even younger ages that him and don't have trouble making some contribution. So anyway, I'll take your bet. I bet that he'll never score more than 7 points in a season, playing 70 games or more. How about your signature? I'd love seeing a quote of mine after one your typical three line trashbins of a post. It would make me look forward to them instead of groan when I see a DD
Old, old interview. It was in the Chronicle though, around the same time that it was brought out that Horry had gotten one of Calvin Murphy's daughters pregnant. You are welcome to try to hunt it down. DD
Ok, you are on.....all he has to do is score 7 points in ONE season, then each one of us will own the others signature for 3 months. OK, since Boki scored 7 points in his FIRST game, I get your signature. You already lost, Sam, but you are probably used to that. DD
This thread is sad. It's as if some of you are stalking a girlfriend who dumped you and ran away. MOVE ON!
I think this is a very good point that never gets mentioned. Everyone thought Horry could be a Scottie Pippen type player but people never understood that the guy had almost zero ball handling skills. And it did limit his offense. Horry dribbling the ball was a very awkward sight.
5 pts in 20 minutes, and 7 the other night for an average of 6ppg. It is coming.....the Nachbar express is going to get comfy and then WHAMO !! DD
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=250103002 He is shooting a rasp 27% from the field in two games so far (25% from 3-point line). Not bad. Also 25 minutes per game and 6ppg.
I heard an old interview with Horry and he stated he had no social life because he worked on his game 16 hours a day.
having watched some of the game I was disappointed that he looked as lost and clueless as when JVG 'browbeat' him. I hope he gets his stuff together.
