10 centers challenge...sounds fun. 1. Yao 2. Howard 3. Bynum 4. Big Z 5. Dalembert 6. Bogut 7. Duncan 8. Nene 9. Chandler 10. Okur 11. Shaq 12. Biedrens 13. M. Gasol 14. B. Miller Those are not in any particular order, but I would consider all of them better than Prz and Oden. DD
Sorry, I disagree, the Rockets are as talented as Portland. The fact that our players aren't big names doesn't mean they aren't as good. If you look at the games, the Rockets matchup evenly with the Blazers athletically and can score and defintely rebound. As far as Roy single-handedly giving them an advantage talent wise what planet are you on!?
Sorry Old Man Rock, like everybody else I have to call you out, but not for the top center quote (that was easy to debate). I have something easier than that to debate on, "Roy is a top 5 player". Dude, you make this too easy! I wonder if you're posting this just get get Rockets fans all riled up! If you're serious in what you say, please think before make a statement like this. People will think you don't know much about basketball. I can go on all day on and on on who's better and who is his equivilent, but I will list just a few (no paticular order) who is far better than B. Roy. What I am defining as "far better" is based on their skillset they have shown within the last few years. Lebron D-Wade Kobe KG Paul Pierce Dwight Howard Tim Duncan Yao Ming Al Jefferson Chris Bosh Elton Brand (injured 1.5 years) Dirk Joe Johnson Chris Paul Amare Stoudemire Here is my list of "far better" players, does anyone disagree? Remember when we say top rank players it's based on skillset not age.
I took out the bigs so we could compare apples to apples. I would put Roy ahead of Pierce just a smidge. So I think he is in that next tier after Wade, Lebron, and Kobe.
I wouldn't put him ahead of Pierce...yet. Also, I think you have to consider Tony Parker and, actually Danny Granger - it's fair to say Granger needs to have more than just one break-out year, but statistically they are very similar.
Point taken. I'm just saying that I wouldn't have a problem with people flaming me if I used that as a title. Titles are powerful things. I would probably use a title like "Are the Blazers More TALENTED Than the Rockets?" if I didn't want to feel the heat. But I don't mind getting attacked by posters- relatively harmless. There's a guy in my industry who wrote this book called Resumes That Knock Em Dead. Every year, it's one of the top 2 best-selling career books. It's average, at best. You can find 30+ books on the market with much better advice, better samples, more up-to-date info., etc. So why is his book always #2? The title. He said so himself- the title sells.
The reason I think we can beat the Lakers is the same reason I think we can beat Portland. The most talented team doesn't always win. We are playing harder and tougher than Portland right now. Did you read our stats, when we are behind in the 4th quarter we lose like 80% of the time? Did you get a sick feeling in your gut when we blew are lead and Portland started taking control late in the third. That feeling that made you think "Oh know we are going to blow this". Yeah that seem feeling we had in Dallas. But last night we didn't give up... we didn't quit and what we did was an AWAKENING!!! We got like 9 offensive rebounds and hole bunch of stops. Battier started making 3's and Lowry was jumping like a Kangaroo. Landry played strong and hard and got 2 critical rebounds. One he just yanked out of Roy's hands. WOW did you see that! You know Roy is thinking in his head right now damn these guys are tough. This is the same Blazers team that literally toyed with the Lakers the last 2 games they played, kicking those arrogant Lakers butts soundly. So bad that the lakers started playing dirty. If you read in the Blazers forum after you get past all of the refs are bad and the Rockets are dirty you hear some truth about how they feel, "This Rocket team just wants it more than us!" They also clearly feel if they somehow could get past the Rockets they could take the Lakers in 7. And I personally think they might be right. Yeah I said it, I don't think the Lakers are that much better than the Blazers. And if you watched the last two games that the Lakers played the Blazers you might agree. Hell just look at all the playoff games right now. You won't see a more physical team than the Blazers with the exception of maybe Cleveland and I know we can beat them. So what does that make us... well I will let you decide that one yourself but I certainly don't think we are more talented than the Lakers either and you can flame me for that also. What I absolutely think we can win. ANd it is because in the words of a more famous Rocket than me we have the heart of a champion! We have stopped Kobe in the past... not comletely but enough and we can do it again. But it ain't gonna happen if we don't take this Blazers team seriously. They will kick our butts 3 more times if we don't give them the same kid of effort we did SUnday. And unlike another Rocket who doesn't have much faith I believe if we can do that the rest of the playoffs we can beat anyone regardless if they have Kobe or Lebron or even a new kid on the block named Roy! Okay bring on the flaming I am ready!!!!!!!!!!
Only Rockets' fans would think we have more talents than Portland. 7, 8 out of 10 analysts/ fans every where else would think other wise. I think Portland has more talents 1-10 than most teams in the league. Why have the Rockets gone up 3-1? 1) Experience. Guts. Heart. Determination ... 2) We play together. a) On offense, we trust each other more so than many other teams, and many if not all players have stepped up at various times. b) Our defense. This team has the players drafted/ taught by JVG, even the players who came after have the same mindset ... We work to cover each other and few teams work harder. We have those things. We do not have more talents. Not overall anyhow.
I think the blazers have more offensive talent. But most of those talents are defensive sieves. Thats where the team ball aspect comes into play.
Good post. I think that Yao will have a lot more success against the laker's bigs. Gasol and Bybum are a big part of the lakers offense and they can't afford to play real physical and get in foul trouble like the blazer's bigs. The blazers can just switch between prizbilla/oden/frye to wrestle with yao to try to avoid him getting position. Also, I don't believe Kobe has the lateral quickness and exposiveness that Roy does, simple due to aging. This is good for Artest, cause he seems to have a hard time staying in front of Roy
Yeaaaah.... I don't know about this one... If there ever was another player that was close to Jordanise.... It would have to be Kobe. I remember a reporter asking Jordan if he could still Dunk on people and he said "Only when I have to." This my friend is Kobe, he does what he needs to do to win; so if you think he has lost his quickness, then think again.
lol but I bet if you asked Artest which one is easier to guard, he would go with Brandon Roy definitely.
The question was not who is better. The question was which team is more talented. Those are different questions. Having more talents does not always mean you will win. The 1st Rockets championship team, besides Hakeem, consisted of lesser talents than most teams in the league. That team finished very low during the regular season, 6th place I think, and it won the whole thing.
Were winning a series, up 3-1 against a team that has home court advantage. I don't see how you can make the point that the other team is better.
i am not gonna flame you cause just admitting that you might get flamed means that you have considered the other side of the arguement. the other side being rockets having little chance of getting past the lakers.
I just don't understand all the hate here......we don't have one of our best players with(20 zillion) sitting on the bench. Were not suppose to be here( up 3-1) with the current west teams. This is the time of the year were we just have to enjoy what our guys have accomplish this year. no backcourt experience PG's, one of them didn't even got to play training camp with the other players. not to mention we just lost our back up center for the remainder of his career. Relax guys it's one hell of a ride!
