The greatest announcer i've ever heard by FAR is Gus Johnson. You cant tell me he wouldnt make the most boring game exciting.

    LOL, that was enterainingly sentimental.

I too love Bill Worrell, he had so much passion and quirky replies. My only pet-peave is when he constantly states ANY team's draft pick as a #1 haha (it might be true in whichever team's decision, but it's a little misinforming).

I do think Bill is one of the best with the style he has, which is a smooth and clear voice that is best suited for beisbol. but Worrell makes it work for basketball.

I think Bill Worrell is great. I get to hear a lot of other teams' announcers on NBA League Pass Broadband International, and I think Bill is clearly the best. Might also be because he is a bit of a homer and seems to love the Rockets, but I also think he just transports the love for the game the best.

I wasn't a fan of Bill Worrell in the early days. His style grew on me during his years with Calvin Murphy. When I first got the NBA package back in the day I was able to compare Bill to some of the announcers for the other team. I thought then and still think now that we have one of the better announcers in the league.

    On a side note...

Back in the 80's,when the team was still at the Summit, the players used to head to the parking lot via a back door at the Summit. Bill used to come out that door too and he was a genuinely nice guy to anyone and everyone who approached him.

Much was said about Ralph Sampson's demeanor then but I have to say Akeem Olajuwon as he was known then was not so nice to the fans. I met them both on multiple occasions and Akeem was never nice to any fans who came up to him after a game. Ralph would smile, walk, sign, walk a little more, sign and make his way to his car. Akeem didn't want to be bothered at all. Around the time Akeem became Hakeem, Olajuwon became a nicer person.

I think Bill Worrell's standing as announcer is akin to Matt Schaub's standing as a QB currently in the NFL.

Certainly not elite. But in that next group, and depending on the day, week or year, near the top of that next group, making you think...elite?

What? Gus Johnson is the absolute best sports announcer in the business. There is NO contest. You may disagree, but I bet 80% of America would agree with me.

I wonder how much he makes per game -- probably too much for an NBA team to be able to buy him as their PBP guy.

I'd compare him to Luis Scola.. solid announcer, but shouldn't we look to replace him before he breaks down?

I have always been a huge fan of Bill Worrel, still am. I love listening to his play by play and commentary. I would really miss him if he retires.
