I have to say, though I wouldn't thought so a month ago. . .. ... "F#cking" Aaron Brooks and KM. It's like most of the other SG/PG, one player is one of the league's best, then there's kind of a drop off. KM is not too far off Kobe and Wade in scoring, though Brooks blows away the Lakers' and Heat point guards. Other good ones that haven't been mentioned: Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker Caron Butler (or Jason Terry) with Jason Kidd It's weird though, there's very rarely been a team that had an HOF (or even all star) shooting guard with a top notch (HOF) point guard. Though, it is alot of good ones out there. Isiah Thomas/Joe Dumars Bob Cousy/Sam Jones Jerry Sloan (great defender)/ Norm Van Lier Eddie Jones (Kobe Bryant)/Nick Van Exel (Lakers, could've been the most talented ever, if they actually stayed together) Michael Jordan/Ron Harper (was actually an all-star caliber player, very early in his career) Michael Finley/Steve Nash Byron Scott/Magic Johnson Clyde Drexler/Sam Cassell Clyde Drexler/Terry Porter Mitch Richmond/Tim Hardaway Steve Smith/Mookie Blaylock There are a few more really good ones out there.
^You forgot about Kidd and carter when they played in jersey^ That's another backcourt where both guards are elite players
Kidd only averages 10 points a game, so I don't think that really counts as one of the best scoring backcourts in the league. Brooks and Martin are probably tops. On the complete other end of the spectrum, you have the Pacers. They've mostly been starting some combination of TJ Ford (10 ppg), Brandon Rush (9 ppg), and Earl Watson (7 ppg).
I will take a backcourt that has a point guard that gets 10 points and 10 assists on a nightly basis along with a 20+ppg shooting guard any day of the week because, despite not scoring, those 10 assists means that other players are getting points which also means that the team is producing as a whole and not having to rely solely on the backcourt.
Considering Scola has been managing to score over 20ppg as well I'd say we're doing fine on that count.
Brooks and Martin is definitely the best so far... next year, it'll probably be a different story, with the return of Yao and all...
If this counts, I'm taking lebron and mo. Brooks and Martin is better than Curry/Ellis for sure. I think Curry is playing well, but Ellis is a load of empty stats that once you analyze more closely look a bit ugly.
forgot to mention Clyde and The Dream in players that draw the attention away from Brooks and Martin while you were mentioning Yao
For people saying the Nuggets and the Thunder the Nuggets backcourt is: PG: Chauncy Billups SG: Aaron Afflalo the Thunder backcourt is: PG: Russell Westbrook SG: Thabo Sefolosha those are clearly not in the running
As of right now, I'll take Brooks and Martin. But if Ellis and Curry are somehow still in the same backcourt next year, it would have to be them. Curry will be a nice player to watch next year.
Close call between Curry/Ellis and Brooks/Martin since neither plays any defense. But....being a Rockets fan give me Brooks/Martin
No love for Carter and Nelson? Carter has been playing some good basketball as of late and Jameer has been looking good since his injury. I'll take Ab and Martin though.
