What would be the best Scenario for the Houston Rockets 2011/12 Season

  1. Mchale leads the Rockets to a 30 win season, leaving Houston with a top 7 pick

    26.4%
  2. The Rockets finish the season with 46 wins, as a 7th seed advancing to the 2nd round only

    56.3%
  3. Mchale leads the Rockets to 50+ wins, while ending up getting swept in the 1st round

    9.2%
  4. The Rockets finish with 44 wins tied as a 8th seed, losing the tie breaker.

    Amazing!

The majority of fans want their team to win as much as possible! Who would've thought?

I'm with you. The best option is that McHale drops out as coach before the season starts, the Rockets when 75 games and go on to win Championship.

When every choice is just a guess and not real, why not have the best possible choices up there as well.

The next best choice is that McHale manages to lead our team to a 75 game win season and a championship.

The 2012 draft class looks STACKED, the 7th pick in it is worth more than the #2 pick this year imo.

I guess the other thread was the wrong one.

I agree that very few if any teams purposely lose games anymore. However, if we choose to trade one or more of our impactful veterans for high picks, and let Hayes go in free agency, there wouldn't be enough talent on the roster to win many games. What many would call "tanking".

If we trade up in this years draft using Martin/Scola, and don't bring Hayes back-

Around a 30 win season. Personally I would prefer to go this route, because IMO it presents the clearest path to a championship caliber roster. A championship caliber roster starts and ends with allstar/superstar talent. No matter how many role players you accumulate, without that starting point you have little chance at winning big. The clearest path to allstar/superstar talent is through the draft- and that is what a 30 win season affords you. Maybe not a top 3 pick, but a top 10. As Morey has said, it is much easier to trade up with a top 10 pick than without one. The added incentive here is if we make the playoffs next year, we lose our 1st rounder outright to NJ. Going this route will not guarantee a championship caliber roster, however it at least gives you a shot.

If we more or less keep our roster stable, with minor additions(our 1st rounders this year)-

Around a 48 win season. This will be the roster that we ENDED this year on, not the one we started with. Yes the schedule softening contributed to our late season run, among other external factors, but the primary reason we played better was there was simply more talent on the team. Or rather, less negative talent on the team. If we keep that team together, I expect improvement in our win/loss. McHale and his staff might bring some new things to the table, but in the end I doubt the coaching change would effect the end result too much, positively or negatively. Talent is much more important. While winning 48 games or so would be nice, and exciting, in the end it does not provide a clear path to a championship. Only a marginally above average roster. Personally I think this is the least likely scenario. Morey has stated many times that changes are coming. Besides, if we are really to stand pat, Adelman would still be here.

If we continue to trade for marginal improvements in talent, and sign a defensive center-

Around 50+ wins. Much like Rafer for Lowry, or Landry for Martin, we continue to accumulate talent by flipping our assets for upgrades. Maybe Martin for Iguodala? Or Granger? Also there is a crop of free agent centers this summer including Nene, Marc Gasol, DeAndre Jordan etc. It would be extremely difficult to pry away one of the top names, so we might have to settle for someone like Dalembert. Continuing to build on the talent on the roster, I believe this team can break 50 wins. However, without a franchise level player to build around, a REAL shot at a championship would still be elusive. We might have a shot at home court, and certainly be "relevant" again, though.

I have my own preferences, but in the end I have no idea what path the team will end up taking. I think they might try to go the first route if the opportunity presents itself. If not, they might continue building with the 3rd route. For now I'd say there is a 50/50 chance of going either way. With standing pat the least likely.

I don't think that is necessarily true. As it would be nice to get one of those three, we don't need them to contend. 2 of them are PGs, we have klye and goran. The other is Superman who can block, rebound, and score. We don't need scoring, so all we really need is someone who can block & reboun

The most I would hope for as a big is Dalembert. He is the most realistic target. Getting anyone better would be a gift form above. But That one player alone would add at least 3-4 wins to our season.

This isn't a poll to predict how many wins, but see what our fans would like to see as overall success for next season. Excluding winning the Championship.

Would u rather see us do great in the season, but bad in the playoffs
Be mediocre in the season and okay in the playoffs
or Horrible in the season, getting a good pick out of it

I wanted realistic outcomes, if i would of added that the Rockets win 75 games and bring home a Championship, I am sure everyone would of voted for that one.
With these options it gives a general ideal of what direction fans want the team to head in
