Nevermind my previous post...just found this: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/basketball/5600361.html Adelman said his team was about to sign C Justin Williams to help fill the void created by Yao's absence. "I know one game he had, because he had it against us, he had something like 12 rebounds in a half," Adelman said.
wow this guy looks really impressive, and most importantly.....hes TALL. i love scolandry and hayes but these guys will look like midgets when we play the big teams.
Theres only a few things I hope he brings to this team. 1. chemistry- We have a great chemistry on the court and off the court... we cant risk this just for a backup center imo. 2. Defense- I dont think he is really signed for offensive purposes... if he can pull up 7+ rebounds everytime hes playing, and have a few good defensive stands versus other good big men, Ill be statisfied
well, i know he can't stop Andrew Bynum <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCMBKzEHba0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCMBKzEHba0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
something encouraging about justin williams despite his career averages: this season, the few games he's gotten 10 minutes or more, he's handled the boards well: NOV 21-PHX 14:50 minutes, 4 offensive rebounds, 6 defensive rebounds, 1 block JAN 4-CLE 12:14 minutes, 4 offensive rebounds, 4 defensive rebounds FEB 13-HOU 23:08 minutes, 4 offensive rebounds, 8 defensive rebounds, 5 steals, 1 block Towards the end of last season when he averaged about 20 minutes a game for 9 games, he averaged 9 boards and managed to put the ball in the basket as well. So he is far from a dud and in the worst case scenario, will be 6 good fouls if we face a Shaq or forwards like Gasol/Bynum/Duncan/Boozer prove to be too strong for Scola and Landry. Best case scenario, Williams fits in seamlessly given the transition from the Kings system which no doubt held over a lot of Adelman's system, and he contributes on the defensive end by giving us another shot-blocker, saving Mutombo from having to carry that burden on his 41 year old shoulders alone.
The good thing about J Will is he played with the Kings. The Kings still run Adelman's playbook. So, J Will will probably fit in well.
Good to hear that he's signed. He probably won't see much playing time, but it's good to have extra big men for the playoffs. If he looks good in practice, we should consider taking a flyer on him next year as he has shown some potential.
It seems like that game was from their 2006/2007 season game (Either April 1 or 28, 2007). JW was just too new into the NBA to know how to guard a bigger man. I wonder if Bynum can do the same thing to him 11 months and about 20 pounds heavier later. Andrew was then ~270 lbs while JDub was ~215lbs. Mismatch. P.S. JDub's free throw is just horrible. This could hinder him from taking his game to the next level (unless you are shaq). But Karl Malone improved his over the years - this kid could.
real hope he could do that in a real NBA game. Games in the next 10 days. Sat 08 vs New Orleans Mon 10 vs New Jersey Wed 12 @ Atlanta Fri 14 vs Charlotte Sun 16 vs LA Lakers Tue 18 vs Boston We may see him in the games against nets, hawks and bobcats. And if rox do see him plays, he be playing in the garbage minutes, which should meant another blow out win for the Rox. Sure hope justin williams plays in every game.
