I am slightly ajar when they point to the sky, I don't care if they do it, I just don't need to see it after every single. But all in all the celebrating doesn't bother me.
I think most of us have been conditioned by the attitude our team has had for such a long time. Ever since Bags and Bidge have been the captain-type guys here, everyone has followed in their footsteps. Carl Everett shaped up when he got here, for cryin out loud! I think we're used to our team having that professional, business-like attitude about the game (which I personally think is great in any sport). But all I'm saying here is that...it probably pisses us all off even more to see the Cards do it because our team has been just the opposite for SO long. Most other teams really can't say that. That's why I think we're even more upset about it... but I'm still pissed. Screw the Cards. (I always hope for a series-ending injury that's non-career-threatening...like a badly strained hammy or something. Don't want anyone really hurt...just hurt enough to not screw us.)
i'm not wishing per se; sanders got what he deserved; puljos will, too. you don't mess with the baseball gods. nope. if sanders had hit that homer in the bottom of the 8th of game 6 with the pennant on the line, OK. if puljos' homer had won the game, OK. i get that - it would still piss me off, but i get it. but when they did what they did when they did what they did, they deserve smite from the baseball gods. sanders deserved to make an ass of himself and get hurt. puljos is next. they're watching.........
I'm not a huge baseball fan so please don't flame me. What's wrong with what Sanders did? He hit a homer at home and got some love from the crowd (thats what it sounds like). Is that some kind of way of saying game over, or something?
To tell you the truth, I wasn't bothered by either move. Compared to basketball and football, players showing up other players doesn't even exist in baseball. It's all so subtle compared to other sports, it just doesn't bother me.
a curtain call is a special deal. it's not something to be done after ever HR. and the first freaking inning is way too early for that. particularly in Game 1 of a series. i have a friend who is a cardinals fan,and even he said he was surprised to see that.
curtain calls should be reserved for doing something spectacular. hitting a 2 run dinger in the first hardly qualifies.
I really don't care, but I do have to admit I was like WTF when he gave a Curtain Call. I was listening in my car. Milo just said he came out for a curtain call and I was all mad because I thought Milo was being his usual self and not giving what the details were.
Baseball is the one game where respect and history come into play every night (the main reason it is my favorite sport). As said by some above, curtain calls are for "special" moments and things that happen in the first inning of a seven game series are certainly not special moments. If a player hits 3 home runs in a game, the 3rd could easily be a curtain call. If a player breaks a record, they get a curtain call. If the player hits a game winning or go ahead run in the late innings then a curtain call could be made... but most greats wouldn't give a curtain call in that spot. To be honest, most real "great" players want NOTHING to do with curtain calls. You won't see a Bagwell or Biggio go curtain calling unless it is maybe a special moment in their career or setting a personal record, and even then it would seem weird that they are doing it because they are true team guys. They are all about the team aspect and curtain calls are "selfish" in the grand scheme of things because they are about individual achievments. Baseball is also a game that thrives on revenge, such as "you hit our best guy we'll hit yours." I think this is one reason Roy was "all up in" Reggies grill the entire game, he threw him up and in fastballs all night. A lot of pitchers are big "respect" guys, like show us respect and we won't hit you... and the Astros pitchers (Clemens, Roy and Lidge) don't shy away from making a point with some 95MPH chin music. Nolan Ryan is probably the king of payback, he would plunk just about anyone if they deserved it... think Robin Ventura.
well, here's hoping we go up like 10 - 0 in the early innings on saturday.........cause if that happens, i would definitely put some money on the Rocket plunking poopjols in the back or something with a 95 mph fastball
I have never liked basically this Cardinal team after the Snakes beat them in 01 only for them (Larusa, Morris, Edmunds, maybe Pujols???) to cry the better team lost. BTW the Snakes beat their next two opponents as well and win the World Series, which that Cardinal team certainly would not have succeeding in doing. (side note, Reggie Sanders was a Snake then--and him coming back or not won't be the factor many think. He is a classic teaser, once you think he has got really hot and locked in he will strike out 4 times in a row. As great to a postseason start he has, he is just as likely to be a zero from here on out as to continue anything remotely like that torrid hitting). After that classless act, about the only team I might route for this group of Cardinals over is the NYY. The sad thing is the Cardinals are kinda media darlings ("hard nosed team", "good guys", "great fans", "hard luck team haven't won since 80s", bla, bla, bla, etc), IMO they are as smug as they come--the Pujols play kinda just fits in with that. What about the hard luck Astros and great career MLB reps and players (Bigg, Bags) who have never made it to a World Series--no media play there. I actually think the Yankees have a ton more class--I just can't route for them under any circumstances despite major respect for some individual players and coaches there.
smug is a good word to describe the cardinals. having said that...they've heaped a lot of praise on us recently. particularly on our pitching.
maybe it's just the sick and twisted humor in me but I LOVE it when our pitchers throw 95-96 mph fastballs and come within inches of the opposing batters face teach them to crowd the plate
do you think these games are boring?? i'm dying...biting my fingernails...freaking out. boring isn't the word i'd use to describe it. not arguing with you...i can't convince you it's exciting! just curious.
I'm sick of hearing how classy St. Louis fans are. Anybody see that piece on SC from the 85 world series? The Ump got hundreds of death threats from fans... I'm sure any other city would have done the same. But St. Louis is supposed to be "special" town with alot of class. I don't want to hear that there just like anyother town... Given the situations of the Homers by Pujlius and Sanders I thought they were extremely odd. But it didnt upset me to much. I just hated seeing fox showing like 25 replays of Pujlous homeruns. Its just a freaking homerun. If they want to show a replay 25 times than show edmonds catch that was amazing...
Poo-hole just standing there with the stare-down, waiting for his homer to finally reach the stands. Man that pissed me off! Hit the ball, do a fist-pump or whatever. But don't show up the pitcher who just held your mighty offensive squad to 1 run and 4 or 5 hits in 7 innings. Chump ass b****.
