I'm talking about the rest of the bailouts that we've tried this year. Re: Japan Maybe we should take a look at Japan's corporate tax rate and see what that's done to their business climate and the effect on the economy.
it wasn't designed to be the white knight that would save everything. it was something that would be built on and would help restore faith in the markets that govt understood the problems and was willing to work with business to fix them. the credit markets are completely ****ed. this effects all businesses. do you get this?
The credit markets are completely ****ed whether or not this goes through. We've got a bitter pill, and it costs a ton of money to put off swallowing it.
97 (combined) Democrats voted "NO." Why is that significant? Add them to the "YES" column and the bill passes. Do NOT simply put this on the "House Republicans." I'm honestly proud that not all elected officials are idiots in favor of posturing and partisan politics. Some of them know that the free market system is the best road on this issue. That is all.
Except, the Democrats and Republicans had a mutually agreed-upon deal where each side would supply at least half of the votes necessary. One side delivered. One side did not.
Obama didn't say that. He had a point about the effective tax rate (not lowest, but lower than stated rate), but it just means that big businesses pay less than small businesses and start-ups. The high corporate tax rate screws entrepreneurs that will get us out of this mess.
why then did pelosi stand up and deliver a diatribe against bush and republicans just before the vote (you have to watch it to get the full effect). if she truly wanted it to pass, she should have just said, "it's the right thing for the country, let's pass the bill and figure out where the blame lies after." instead, she sabotaged her own bill. that can only mean she knew she didn't have the votes in her own party, and was just looking for a way to blame the republicans.
It's not. The regressive nature is. I don't think Obama gets it, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a point.
we have lots of bitter pills to swallow over the next 15 years. the govt's handling of this continues to reinforce my feeling that america has years and years of pain ahead with the complete lack of foresight washington has continued to demonstrate even in times of crisis when they could have instilled some sort of confidence in the market and in the public. a sad day....hopefully they fix their stupidity and get something done.
Was gone for a while, been busy (made it to page 7, so if I missed anything after that, I just haven't seen it yet), and I was wondering what the "awful, offensive speech" was that Pelosi gave that the House Republicans are whining about. I figured it must have been something I missed. This was it?? I saw her give this speech. I can't believe this is what the Reflublicans are babbling about. It can't be. It isn't anything that would set off the frantic spin from the House GOP that I saw on the tube right after the failure of the vote. What BS! And to be clear, I am NOT a fan of Pelosi, and I've said it here before, more than once. This is their "excuse" for having a baby fit? Geez. How rediculous.
No, you don't. This was about restoring confidence to the markets. The bill wasn't going to save us from a recession. It would have made it a lot less painful, but a recession was highly likely to happen anyway. What the house failed to do today is lead the nation in a moment of crisis. They thought they were telling Wall Street to go screw themselves, but really they just told all of us to go screw ourselves. We officially have no leadership. Whatever hope for confidence in the markets is now gone. There will be irreparable damage as a result of this, even if they manage to pass the bill later in the week. I've already heard reports of companies that will fail to make payroll this week because of frozen credit lines. These are dark times.
Are you talking about the speech rimrocker quoted on page 7, that I just posted about? It has to have been another speech. I saw that speech and it was nothing that "assaulted" the House Republicans. Considering everything we are having to deal with now, it was rather mild, IMO. Was there another speech?
I think you have to ask yourself: Are you better off than you were 2 years ago? If not, has the Democratic Congress served you well? Voters, take note.
