The Athletic: Bruno Fernando Will Start Over Sengun When He Returns

Yes I've been watching him as a spur pick up.

Kinda like Scola where the Spurs had Duncan and others.....76ers hung on to Tobias Harris, Embiid and others too long.

This is true. The idea is to set a defensive tone early and to end the game with a rim
protector. Jabari needs help.....can't just be one guy.

 

Fernando as the starter tonight got 16 minutes... with Sengun injured lol

 

And he was GREAT...the team jumped out to 38 first quarter points....

Was there any mention of him being on minutes restriction? I'm guessing that was the case since he was returning from injury, but sure would've like to have seen more of him after that first quarter went so well.

 

Bruno was bad. He was a -15 in a win where everyone who played more than 5 minutes was a net positive.

What's worse is he's supposed to be in there to give KPJ a vertical threat but it didn't help KPJ's scoring at all. Just limited them to trying something the defense knows they're going to do.

Give Bruno a chance though, it's his first game back from injury. Will likely improve.

KPJ is by far his most trusted. It does not matter what he does he his gettign minutes and the damn ball. Its basically his team according to SIlas.

 

I wouldn't mind staggered minutes but Silas has to finally understand who the better player is by far.

 

I am fine with Sengun starting.

Hopefully as the team matures all the drafted bigs realize they can do everything Bruno can do and he's eating off their plates Tari/Bari/Uzi can be lob threats, can pass over the defense, can rim run. Hell throw in KJ, he does all of that too. We need to shorten this rotation, trade Eric and Jae'Sean, play Christopher and win more than last year and get a nice draft pick. Are we less talented than Utah or simply haven't bought in enough. Regardless, I'm happy to watch it unfold

 

So what role does Garuba get if Fernando starts and Sengun comes off the pine? I feel like Usman impacts the game in more ways than Fernando and has proven more on an NBA court than Bruno has.

Silas' just deciding Fernando was the starter 3 games into preseason is one of his most baffling coaching decisions. It's up there with taking 25 games to work out starting Daniel Theis next to Christian Wood was a bad idea.

 

Bruno is really an end of bench guy.

 

Bruno is distraction.
The problem is guards' defense. Every game other team's guards are killing us. When we deal with the idea of "who will start as center" we are missing the real problem.
When was the last time opponents' centers were destroying us during Sengun-Garuba era? When was the last time opponents' guards didn't destroy us in KPJ-JGreen "one of the best backcourt" defense.

Hope Bruno becomes better, there will be injuries but starting over him Sengun or Garuba is the summary of Rockets coaching.

The team has full of talents, full of hypocrisy. Anyone playing better than KPJ will be penalised. Alpi, Jabari, KJM,... does not matter.

After last night game I'll be very surprised if Jabari or KJM gets any passes tonight. Just watch how offence becomes so limited when Bruno plays tonight.

Silas is killing meritocracy, Silas is killing loyalty. Does not matter. We have already learned not to expect something meaningful from this YMCA level coach.

Just watching the improvements of the individuals "in spite of" coaching. Recommended.
