Minus Keuchel game... the past five games... we've only allowed 14 runs. We are getting it going... If a team like the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Rangers were only allowing 2.8 runs a game. That would be a five game winning streak. I think we are turning the corner in this department, but we need offense. Signs are pointing in this direction.
But the 4 game Red Sox series featured abysmal pitching. Yes, it's better... But still not at the consistent level that it was last year.
The real problem is K right now for the club, why? He wants number 1 starter type money but he does not have that kind of stuff. He looks like at best, he is a number 2 starter. (right now he is not even a major league starter). Springer is more of a number 5 hitter, a guy with power but an average that is going to be in the .275 - .280 range. We need a number 2 hitter, that could be Moran or Bregman. We don't have a number 4 hitter, that could be Reed. I think we should have all those kids playing in the majors and develop them. 1. Altuve 2b 2. Moran 3b 3. Correa ss 4. Reed 1b 5. Springer rf 6. Rasmus cf 7. Gattis/White DH 8. Castro C 9. Kemp Lf, or Marisnick cf and Rasmus to LF Rotation Lets see what Feliz and Devenski can do in the rotation. McCullers, K, Devenski, Feliz, McHugh, Fiers or Fister. Go with 6 that way you protect the young arms.
Post-deadline roster: 2B Altuve 3B Bregman SS Correa 1B Reed RF Springer C Gattis DH White CF Marisnick LF Kemp Bench: Marwin, Tucker, Moran, Stassi Rotation: Keuchel, McCullers, McHugh, Feliz, Musgrove Bullpen: Fiers, Devenski, Hoyt, Sipp, Harris, Gregerson, Giles
I know we have no one better to replace him at the moment, but any chance we move Correa out of the 3rd spot and either up to 2nd or down to 6th?
You see it shouldn't take till "post-deadline"... It should happen now. They are ready at this moment.
Reed isn't even hitting .230 And while Bregman has been great, if we are indeed out of it, why give up an arbitration year with Bregman for an extra month?
Because with every passing month, this season becomes more of a lost cause? If they are at (or close to) .500 1 month from now on June 22nd, they're likely very much in the race for a post season spot. Theyre at the point where they need to be making a move towards there now. If Bregman helps them do that, I really couldn't care less what his arbitration status is in 2021. I don't think fans should really care either, unless this team makes it a habit of selling off their arbitration eligible players like Oakland does.
I agree But, on June 22nd the Super 2 date would have passed anyway And as a fan, I completely agree with you that I don't give a crap about super 2. Jim Crane is the one with the final stamp on that though. And whether he agrees with you or not, I have no idea. I'm guessing with a team 11 games under .500 right now, he isn't considering bringing up Bregman right now, as the poster I was replying to was wanting I might be wrong though, maybe we see him this week...kind of doubt it though, wouldn't you possibly agree?
As much as I want to see young guys and change ... The last thing the Astros need to do is rush guys up . Moran wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire and now he doesn't get to play everyday. Bergman need at least another few months in the minors to make sure his production isn't a fluke and to make sure he can have some success at the MLB level . The pitchers are perhaps the most fragile of goods and many a young pitcher has been ruined by overuse . There's not a lot we can do . I'd like to see kuechel get shut down for a few weeks and give his starts to either devenski or feliz , but pitching hasn't really been a problem recently.
Yeah, arbitration does hold weight, but fans want to see progress and the team being thrown out there isn't exactly doing all that hot. Bregman could be that guy. It could move Springer to the 5 or 6 hole. It would actually give Hinch more lineup combos. I don't want a week to pass, and we are suddenly 13 games out. If things keep going this way... we may be sellers. That in itself isn't something fans envisioned.
I could actually see him playing a combination of LF, 3B, and anywhere else they need him. He has played every position. And with the shifts, a lot of the time the 3B is the SS. Regardless, he's not simply being held down due to getting more defensive experience.
Pretty baseless claims. There have been younger players who were fast-tracked and did well. There have been older players who were slow-tracked and fizzled. Like anything else, it largely depends on the players maturity, their skillset and what their peripheral numbers look like. They could all still fizzle out, but there is no magic formula that suggests a player must have x amount of time in the minors or he gets ruined. Moran is not the prospect Bregman is. I honestly don't know why he's up here right now.
Please fire AJ Hinch. It's bad enough my Pacers are a bunch of dumbos and they fired Vogel only to hire his assistant after Bird said he wanted a new mouth and faster pace. Pretty sure Nate McMillan as an assistant spoke to the players regularly. And he plays the slowest paced basketball in the history of life and is defensive minded. How could you hire Vogel's assistant who is all about defense instead of hiring a new mouth like Blatt who is more offensively inclined. Titans are a bunch of dumbos too for hiring Murlarkey who was an assistant coach to the head coach they fired. Larry Bird is a scrub for firing Vogle and hiring McMillan. Bud Adams children are scrubs for hiring Murlarkey. And Crane/Lunhow are scrubs if they let AJ Hinch manage the remainder of the season. I'm not giving up on the Stros even with Hinch at the helm. I do think Hinch sucks balls and is a terrible manager though. Just awful. Wanna go to my sink. And vomit. Clean it up wit' Comet.
Move Correa to 6th??? Jesus I've seen it all now with Astros Fans. Honestly, were you kidding about moving him to 6? Tell me I missed something.
The obsession about where people bat here is completely misguided and asinine. The actual order only really matters in the very first inning. After that, you simply want your best hitters getting the majority of the AB's. Correa or Springer would get 30-50 less AB's moving down to the bottom third of the order. Pure idiocy for anybody who advocates for that on THIS team.
It's crazy to me how many of you have been paying attention to the way they operate this team over the past several years, yet think, in a lost season no less, that you will see bregman up before next June. Lots of you thought the same thing about Reed.
