The 90's uniforms were decent... but then you factor in how the team faltered miserably in the playoffs three straight years, and you clearly have to see that it was the uniforms to blame. They've played in front of more large crowds with the current unis than any other time in Astros history... they're the ones that people are buying Oswalt, Berkman, and Clemens jerseys in the stores, and they're going to be the most recognizable association with this franchise amongst the current houston population when its all said and done.
I actually like the current uni's -- very much. That puts me in a minority, but it's just a stupid shirt so I don't care. I loved the 90's unis as well. The shooting star from the 70's was cool, and the simple white with the rainbow down the shoulders (early 90's) was good. I've never disliked an Astro uni--I even liked the rainbow guts!
Mabye this is somewhat of a generational thing, no? I remember watching the Astros back in the 80's (wasn't alive in the 70's) but my fondest memories and the point where I became a true hardcore fan began in the mid-nineties. So I have more of a connection to the forgotten unis (which I do like, but see as more of a transition to the current ones) and the present ones. So if you're fondest memories came back in the rainbow days, I can see why you'd have more of an attachment to them. I guess that's why I still love the championship years logo for the Rockets over the others despite its rather horrid color scheme and somewhat unispired design (new ones would be my favorite if they just tweaked the logo a little bit). But I dunno, I honestly cannot see what would be wrong with the current Astros logo/unis, but that's just me.
Actually, the astrodome logo is probably my favorite. I love it. I also like the star with the H. I kind of wish we'd use that one. As far as unis go, I like the current ones. I do, however, like the Nolan Ryan jerseys posted on page 2 very very much. They're probably my most favorite, and I wish we'd return (in the event of a change) to a modified version of those. I love the overhauled rainbow-shoulder thing. It's simple, but fun.
I agree. The star on the hat was too big, but otherwise, that was the best looking Astros' uniforms of all-time. Back on topic: The D-Backs stealing the Astros' colors? That's par for course. First Gonzo and Finley. Then Schilling. (So what if he went through a bunch of mediocre years with the Phillies, I liked the guy as an Astro.) Then Randy Johnson. (Yes, I knew he was a mercenary and never felt like an Astro, but it fits my rant.) Now Brick Red. And all the Astros got back was a stadium design? The commisioner really needs to review these transactions.
There's a reason they never show that red headed step child logo. I'm the yankee dooodle daaaaaaaaaaaaaaandy.
We copied the pinstripes. Even though a lot of teams did that. The texans are copying off of the broncos a lot. Bringing in a lot of thier people and the uniforms are very similar. If only the cheerleaders could be like the broncos cheerleaders.
bump- the Diamondbacks new logo and color schemes were leaked this past weekend- I say they did a pretty good job of copying the Astros colors- I can't believe MLB approved the change.
Eh... can't beat the Astros so why even try. Granted, the purple had to go, but they could have come up with something a little more orginal. Their red seems a little more pinkish to me though.
No kidding, the hat is such a blatant ripoff. The jerseys, while obviously copied, still pale to the Astros (I think it's the font).
