Good God man, hold the line, don't panic now. The music won't stop without us having a chair. The Rockets were always going to get the world for this contract. Remember DD (you know this , but need to hear it now ) ....We're positioned perfectly in front of the greatest free agent haul in NBA history. Add to this the economic climate in which we presently dwell. Now.... The Rockets hold 23 mil of insured, walking, breathing ..... capspace. And DM running the show ... happy daze
i dont think he was included at first, that first deal reported was too good, it was hill, hughes or harrington, a 2011 pick AND switching picks this summer. And i thinkt he 2012 pick too. I think these were all just options discussed and the source or reporter tried to make sense of it all and reported what fit.
DD, that was an insightful post from a unique perspective. However, I hold out hope that a trade beneficial to the Rockets materializes prior to the deadline.
There is also the intimidation factor of dealing with Morey; with all the press he's gotten for "screwing" other teams over with his draft day antics, Morey really may have hurt his camaraderie among the good ol' fraternity of general managers in the NBA. I mean, there's only ~30 of them, if they get wind that he is looking good at their expense they will be that much more leery of dealing with him when he does demonstrate interest in any of their assets. Going through their heads: "If Morey wants him, he MUST be good!" We don't know what Morey's true assessment of Jordan Hill and Tyrus Thomas are. The reason Morey does so well in drafts is because there's no one else there to stop him from acquiring the best player available when it does come time for him to use his pick. With other GM's, part of the reason trades may be more difficult is their resentment of the good publicity he's gotten. Sure, it hasn't stopped other media darlings like Billy Beane, Theo Epstein, and Kevin Pritchard. But maybe Morey just hasn't yet figured out how to properly spin his prognostic success to his general managing peers.
that deal was too good b/c 2012 pick was unprotected. that's 2 potential lottery picks in the 2 upcoming drafts.
But Hill was rumored to be right back in the trade after Walsh said they were not trading him. Both Walsh and Morey are in a stare down right now. As I said in the other thread...we want to get rid of Tmac just as bad as they want to get rid of Jeffries. What probably happened is the orignal deal was Hughes+Jeffries then a option of Hill...or two protected Picks and Morey could want both.
well this is a silly thread lets try to assume what to do when we have only 1/10 of the available information thats just trying to make a blind guess. thats real smart and real calculating there. the only bigger waste of time than me reading it thinking you may actually post something insightful was me actually typing this reply
I'm just going to go to bed and turn off my computer because if I don't I will stay up worried about Bull ****.
I think it's a given that this discussion could all be moot... heck, that's probably why Dak said that. I think we can end the discussion on that part. On to the meat. We don't need any more rookies on the team, but we sure could use some draft picks. We'll get Jordan Hill and draft picks. The end result will be more trades by the Rockets (i.e. draft day). Thus, it's all about getting NY to package players/picks that we can flip. Trading protected draft picks seems like trying to sell a new car that can't make left turns. I (prefer to) think Walsh is trying to jerk us around on the protection status of those picks. If taking on Jared Jeffries means we can barely resign our own free agents, that's a major catch for team trying to pick up a young vet for an immediate title run.
How do we get "Left holding the bag for TMac? If they don't get a deal that they like, then they let him expire and try and use the cap space created in a deal to acquire a player this summer. They always have that option, so any deal that they accept would have to be better than that. Let's make sure that I understand. You are just like the rest of us and have no idea what deals have been discussed and which ones have truely been offered. So you're shocked that the Rockets haven't pulled the trigger on a deal that you don't know the details of and can't even be sure was actually offered to us? That seems fair.
Wow, I am clearly going by what has been reported in the media, this is a Rocket's fansite where we are here to speculate on these types of things. I am sorry you feel this was not insightful, and that it was a waste of your time. As a Rocket fan, on a Rockets site, I am just putting out a post based upon my experiences in making deals etc, and having seen some people get addicted to the "too good to be true" types of deals. It is all speculation, and if DM pulls it off, fine, as I said, I will eat my words.... Just saying that from the outside this seems familiar to me. Everyone should know I am a DM guy, love what he has done, and am hopeful he can pull it off again. Just a fan putting down his thoughts on what the situation looks like.....again...from the outside. Nothing more....no need for people getting all upset. DD
I'm sure that's what it was! Two potential lottery picks is pretty lopsided for us! I hope that we still have the deal with the Knicks on the table and we are just looking to try and sucker someone else.
Clearly I am just going by what has been reported in the press.....nothing more.... But also the fact that the field narrows as the deadline approaches and potential suitors move on.... If we keep Tmac and there are no fair trades, I am ok with that, but to me, what has been reported seems to be fair...... I don't mind if others disagree, that is what being a fan is all about. DD
DD, to your credit, you have been saying Morey shoudn't be waiting for the last minute trade. He should have agreed to one that was good for us, instead of the "excellent" deal. Now, most of the good players are gone by the wayside.
So... you are qualified to comment on the art of making a deal and we should value your take on it because....?
