Morey, lost me on this one. We need D, especially at the 2 and 3 spot for teams like the Lakers and Miami if we want to compete. Courtney Lee is too small to play against the top competition. Trevor/Shane gives us a very good defensive option in the 4th Qtr when u need stops.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5455472 For the Rockets, the move is basically a large salary dump. This summer the Rockets spent a lot of cash signing Luis Scola, Kyle Lowry and Brad Miller to free agent contracts and their payroll ballooned. Before the trade, the team was bracing for a $8 million plus luxury tax hit. This deal saves them $28 million on the life of the contract and roughly $10 million (when you factor in luxury tax payments) this season.
great trade. hopefully lee can show his defense is top notch so we can downgrade shane to less minutes. but seeing him a lil bit on the nets last year with LP, he can definitely play. athletic, can hit the 3 if open, can penetrate pretty well, loves transition, and willing to play D. great trade/asset.
Hurts us defensively - for all the (justifiable) crap Ariza gets regarding his shooting, he was just about the best on the team in making hustle plays on defense. No one was remotely close to him in steals (1.75, no one else crossed 1.0) and he was an underrated rebounder (only Scola and Chuck had more, and he was virtually tied with Chuck). Battier is getting older. I expect him to lose another step this year. This basically: Paves the way for Chase to start if he can improve on his rookie year. Reduces the logjam at the 3. Gives us a dependable backup at the 2 (Taylor is too much of a question mark still). Knocks us down to the luxury tax line, freeing up Morey to be aggressive with the eventual Jeffries trade. Admits that the Ariza signing didn't pan out as well as they expected.
didn't like it as soon as I read it,I thought we would try to get a little better..it's almost like a downgrade IMO
I really don't like this trade. Not because of defense, because I think Lee is not that much of a drop off in one on one defense. Ariza is a lot better off the ball defender, that is why he gets a lot of steals. What I will miss is his length and rebounding, because we are gonna need that against the Lakers.
good good reason,I didn't like the trade first but putting it like that, then I like the trade.... Good thing I didn't get an ariza jersey lol
