Us gamers out there have been hearing nothing but praise concerning Microsoft's X Box . BUT before you think the X Box will be an instant sucess I think we should take a look at a few factors when an Industry Giant brings out a new product .

    Vince McMahon------------------Bill Gates
WWF Owner ------------- Former Microsoft Ceo
    Created XFL ------------ created X-BOX
XFL sucked ----------- X box out Nov 8.

McMahon thought he new what people wanted with hard hitting football action and skimpy cheerleaders . A great concept but people just wanted to keep the same old NFL and Arena Football . Does Bill Gates think his X Box will be an instant sucess? Then Again Sony did come into the mix in 1995 and finally defeated Sega to become Video Games Other System next to Nintendo . The point Im trying to make is that while A new Product is exciting , You just cant get expect to come in a beat somebody like Sony and Nintendo in the first year . X Box will have to rely on good games though ,Nintendo's systems have been lacking but the games were always good , PSX had the hardware but most of the games just sucked . X Box's NFL Fever 2002 has been called horrible compared to Ea Sports Long Lasting Madden series and Sega's great looking Debut NFL 2K series . Though we never know , Sega will be back after all and bring some of its games to X Box , A combo that could become a contender .

    Vince McMahon ------------ Bill Gates
WWF Owner -------------- Still is "the man" despite changing titles
Created WWF (inherited actually, but made it what it is today) -------------- Co-created Microsoft
WWF dominates rasslin' -------------- Microsoft dominates OS'

Guess it works both ways. [IMG]

Those of you guys who are intrigued about the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube, as well as any new PS2 games:

The veil of secrecy over what Microsoft and Nintendo have planned with their new consoles is about to be lifted. The buzz over both of these consoles has been pretty positive. E³, a major trade show, is happening May 16-19 (later this week) in Los Angeles. Tons of new games for the Xbox, GC and the PlayStation 2 will be unveiled there for the first time. Most likely some new PC games too. Some of these games will be playable; others just shown on video. Also, the price of the Xbox is expected to be revealed there. GameCube's price will be revealed on May 24th as part of a financial report. Exact release dates for both the Xbox and GameCube should be revealed at E³ also, as well as any other big special announcements concerning Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

Journalists from every major videogame website (ign.com, videogames.com, gamespot.com, etc.) will be there to cover the event, and provide continuous updates (some will have live feeds) for us to see, so for those interested keep your eyes on those sites. Expect screenshots, downloadable videos, and impressions of all the new games that will be there. Also, for those who have TechTV (unfortunately I don't [IMG] ), they are supposed to cover E³ live.

moestavern, the points and questions that you bring up should be answered once E³ is over.

    I'm looking forward to it.

Microsoft to Launch Xbox on Nov 8 for $299

    By Scott Hillis

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp.(NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) will launch its Xbox (news - web sites) video game console on Nov. 8 for $299, the software giant said on Wednesday, using the crucial holiday season to challenge industry leaders Sony and Nintendo (news - web sites) for dominance in the $6.5 billion industry.

The launch date gives Microsoft just a few weeks to build a buzz around the Xbox before the holiday season, when it needs to make a big splash in the race to catch up to Sony Corp (news - web sites).'s (6758.T) popular PlayStation 2 (news - web sites).

Nintendo Co. Ltd.(7974.T) is launching its next-generation GameCube console around the same time.

But despite the competition, Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft said it expected to sell from 1 million to 1.5 million Xbox consoles through the holidays.

``Neither one of us (Microsoft and Nintendo) are going to have any trouble selling hardware this holiday season,'' Robbie Bach, Microsoft's ``Chief Xbox Officer'', said in an interview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the video game industry's annual trade show. The Xbox entry is controversial because some analysts doubt the market can support three different platforms, pointing to the failure this year of Sega Enterprises Ltd.'s (7964.T) Dreamcast (news - web sites) machine.

Microsoft plans to back the Xbox with $500 million in marketing over the first 18 months, making it the company's biggest product launch ever. It expects to have 600,000 to 800,000 units on store shelves for the Nov. 8 launch, Bach said.

He touted the game's high-powered hardware, which will let players compete with each other and talk to each other online. He also said he did not expect the kind of production delays that plagued the launch of Sony's PlayStation 2 last year.

``The components are all there. We don't expect any bottlenecks. Everything is going really well,'' Bach said.

The price tag is in line with the $300 analysts had expected. Console makers sell the hardware at a loss, hoping to build a user base quickly and then make profits on the games. A lower price makes the machine a more attractive buy, but means a bigger upfront loss for the company. Conversely, a higher price cuts initial losses but could put off cost-conscious consumers.

Based on the same technology found in a personal computer, the Xbox is a new entrant into the console market dominated by the PlayStation and Nintendo's N64 system.

Nintendo was expected to announce details of its all-new GameCube system later on Wednesday.

Microsoft boasts the Xbox hardware will outperform both the PlayStation 2 and the GameCube, but analysts said all that power won't do any good unless software developers make great games that are fun to play.

Bach said Microsoft will have about 15 to 20 game titles for the Xbox launch, and it has dozens more lined up for launch in the following months.

Bach also highlighted Microsoft's plans to develop online games for the Xbox, promising players will be able to join an online game with a single click and will be able to talk to each other while playing.

Microsoft's online plans contrast with those of Sony, which on Tuesday announced a deal with AOL Time Warner Inc.(NYSE:AOL - news) to let PlayStation 2 users access the Web, chat and send e-mail using the AOL service.

``All you have to do is ask game players what they want. People don't want to send e-mail from their couch, they don't want to browse from their couch, they want to play games,'' Bach said in an interview on Tuesday.

``Our online environment is about games, it's not about e-mail, it's not about other things, it's completely and totally focused on games,'' Bach said.
