Duh, of course it will. My guess at this point is the Knicks will sweeten their offer at the last minute and get it done.
STEIN_LINE_HQ [rquoter]Oft-cited warning from various teams tonight: Don't be shocked if Nuggets, after season of shopping him, keep Melo past Feb. 24 trade buzzer. Melo staying in Denver would be fitting conclusion to this season-long circus but has become increasingly plausible for couple key reasons: Rising belief around NBA that some sort of franchise tag on way, along w/Melo's open lust for extension by June 30, changing tune out there. DEN will keep talking trades until buzzer sounds Feb. 24 but case for keeping Melo (compared to settling for so-so trade) gaining credence[/rquoter]

First off, Chris Sheridan is the biggest Knicks homer so if he is criticizing the Knicks for lowballing on their offer, then there is definitely trouble in NYC. I can't believe they think Melo/Billups is only worth Felton/Gallo/Curry/someone to make the deal work. That's beyond insulting. Billups may be older but he still is a guy who holds a lot of value on a contending team(and the Knicks would be a contending team if this trade were to be pulled off). Basically this trade amounts to - we will trade you our starting PG and SF for your all star SF and former all star PG and we will throw in expirings to make the salaries match. This deal wouldn't be approved in a video game....the Knicks must think Masai Ujiri and owner Josh Kroenke are morons. I'll agree they are obviously green and have not played this well, but they aren't idiots.
I'd balk too. I can see the Nuggets wanting fair market value but there really isn't one in this case because Melo indications are to only sign an extention with NYKs. So his FMV really is what do the Knicks want to offer to make some noise in the playoffs and also keep Melo happy. Right now it will be a game of chicken until the trade deadline. If goes past that and they don't reach an agreement then it becomes a game of chicken between the Nuggets and Melo through the off season - sign and trade or stay on the Nuggets or take he accepts a pay cut and loses him for nothing.
(10 o'clock hour) Bynum for Anthony deal is not probable. The teams have talked. Those talks have not advanced past preliminary stages. Deal isnt likely but neither team has killed it either. It is dormant. If he doesnt end up in LA, (Broussard)Which he won't Then where? Many thinks Nets will re-enter at the 11th hour. Denver understands until the Nets trade Murphy, there is always a chance they can get together. Knicks seem most likely spot. I havent yet to confirm those NY Daily reports but it makes sense. Those two teams are talking but NY feels they're giving up too much. Game of chicken right now to see who budges first. (11 o'clock hour) Knicks lying in the weeds again. Would love to get him as FA. Are we down to 2 teams or is there some mystery team like baseball? The Rockets would love to sneak in there and get him as a rental. Chicago a team too but they wont give up Noah so that appears unlikely as long as they're not willing to give up Noah. Some wondering about the Nets and will they come up in the 11th hour? I believe at the end of the TD, he will be with the Knicks. NY Daily News reporting Knicks turning down Denver. According to report, Billups also going with 'Melo. What do you hear? Sources/People I talk to say that that is speculation. They say that that wasnt on the table. Whatever the case, Denver is saying this is a superstar, we want as many assets we can get. Knicks saying they dont want to give up more than 1 rotational guy. This is a game of chicken. Who budges? I do think though it will get done.
Alan Hahn: [rquoter]As for the Rockets, a source said they're out. GM Daryl Morey gave it a look, thought perhaps the Yao Ming contract could make it happen, but a person with knowledge of the situation said Anthony has no interest in signing an extension there. The Rockets could just take him as a rental and work a sign-and-trade once he opts out, but, again, can Houston offer more value than even the Knicks' lowest bid? Hardly. Um, he doesn't think we can offer more value than "even the knicks lowest bid"? WTF is he smoking? If the Knicks had that much more to offer them, especially with Amare and probably Felton being off the table, they would be WAY better than they are now...
Good, move on and be ready for when Melo is traded. Once he goes, the Rockets can move in and grab Nene or another legit center that may become available.
For all of you taking this as fact ignore it...i am not sure how but I follow this guy on twitter...and he is a Knicks beat writer...all he does is post positive things about the knicsk and candy coats them in his favor...He never said a source said that melo wont sign ( he said that...he never said a source said we cant touch the knicks offer) They offered Curry, Chandler and Randolph and some distant pick for melo We can offer Yao (way better than curry...like million in savings), better draft picks and more draft picks. We can offer Jordan Hill or Pat pat both trump Randolph, the only problem is that one piece as good as chandler. But I would think sending t will, or budinger or brooks to 3rd team...we could make that work...but every other aspect of the trade we dominate them in...not to mention We can work seperate deals with our trade exceptions eating contracts they want to get rid of... We could take on birdman, hariinton, melo. If worst case scenario comes we can offer Scola or matrin to match chandler...then u got a deal.... we can get a deal done just whether or not we do it.
Can they trade him already so we can pick up NeNe and be done with this madness and move forward..... Read on Hoopworld the Rox were looking at sending Hill,Bud, 2 first roound picks and Yao(contract) for Nene, Harrington and one other asset....Sounds good to me!!! GET IT DONE MOREY....
Not putting much stock in this. If the Knicks are trying to make a full value offer for an extended Melo then we have no shot, assuming Denver doesn't mind sending him there. We can obviously beat some of the rumored, half value offers that are out there.
