I haven't been very optimistic about Melo wanting to stay here, if we end up trading for him, but this is what Kobe said recently:

It has nothing to do with a bigger market,” Bryant said. “It’s about winning. If you want to keep a player here, make the right decisions, make the right choices, personnel. Get a team around a guy that will help you win and there will be no problems. If Denver will make the right decisions, bring in the right personnel, then he’ll stick around.

    “It’s not rocket science.”

I know the initial reaction is, "oh he's just trying to cover for his friend and say the right thing." However, Kobe's never been the type to BS like this. He's putting himself out there by making this assertion. It's not his "guess", which would have been the usual thing to say when discussing something like this. He's saying he knows it's about winning and he certainly has the inside knowledge, so i gotta believe it when he goes beyond the typical cliche answer and specifically mentions it.

Maybe we have a better shot than it seems?

We aren't going to become a winning team with Melo, even though he would undoubtedly be the most talented player here. Denver will demand a price as well.

Technically we'd be a winning team now, if brooks and chuck had not been injured...but i'm guessing you meant a contender or at least a 50 win team? Out of all these teams, is one clearly better than the other after trading for Melo? They all have to give talent to get him, but we're better prepared to absorb that loss. Who do the knicks have if they lose Gallinari or chandler? Jersey without Favors? Dallas and chicago are the only ones, but i think they're long shots. They don't have the assets to pull it off without losing singnificant talent that would drop them to a similar talent level as the others.

Plus, i think it's about showing him you're willing to make the right moves or that you're in a position to make them. We're loaded with assets, if we can acquire Melo, that makes us a more temping destination for other players and makes it easier to give up other players, especially another scorer. We've got a GM that's proven he's willing to make deals and they're usually good ones to help the team. Yao's injury was actually a blessing in disguise. Melo would be the man here and not a side kick. He also doesn't have to worry about yao's lack of health destroying playoff hopes from now on, since he shouldn't be a major part of this team anymore, if at all.

I'm not still not sure this improves our chances of getting Melo in the first place, but i think we can be a bit more optimistic about him staying, if we do land him.

    N.Y. or bust for ‘Melo?

[rquoter]Several sources told Yahoo! Sports that Carmelo Anthony’s agent, Leon Rose, has recently begun informing teams that the All-Star forward is interested in signing a contract extension with only the New York Knicks. The stance has weakened the Denver Nuggets’ leverage in trying to deal Anthony, not only to other teams, but also the Knicks.

The sources said the Knicks don’t feel pressed to present a substantial trade offer to the Nuggets because they think they can also sign Anthony after the season if he opts out of his contract, as expected.

“If you’re New York, you just sit and wait until the offseason,” one general manager said. “That’s where it’s likely to go. Why give up assets to get him now when you can wait and get him next season?”

Said another source: “If ’Melo is telling the world he wants to go [to New York], why fight so hard to get him? [Knicks president] Donnie Walsh knows this.”

Though there’s less than three weeks before the Feb. 24 trade deadline, a deal for Anthony isn’t imminent. Sources said the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks still have interest in Anthony despite knowing he doesn’t plan to re-sign with them.

“Don’t blame ’Melo. He’s been up front about wanting to go to New York since the summer,” one source close to the talks said. “They better trade him to New York or end up with nothing.”[/rquoter]

Damn, Melo is nothing but a dramatic b****. Why would you even want him on your team?? He got tired of Denver and he's just whining like a little punk.

    DO NOT WANT.

Not gonna happen. Making unrealistic demands of his team who wont deal so no deal is done and stalling them out. Make no mistake he wants no deal except the New York deal. Dont buy all of this he is getting madder at his agent bullcorn. He is dragging Denver through the mud until these idiots give him away for nothing to the Knicks in the offseason. Like I said. No deals or trades going down with this guy and Denver GM gets fired as fall guy in strange trio NBA realignment continues as all of this stuff just mysteriously falls into place all of the sudden. Thats todays NBA.

You know? Its a shame some of these GMs for these professional sports franchises get [iad so much for what they do. Hardly any of them have half the brains of the average knowledge of regular guys on the internet. Shameful for being so uninformed and naive at that high a position with that kind of money.

It looks like NY won't get Carmelo this season, after all. Carmelo's worth will be to a team trying to get rid of a long-term albatross contract.

    Prediction:

Denver tries to engage Lakers or Clippers in trade talks for Melo and then they leak it to the media.

Lebron is king of all NBA drama queens, but assuming Melo is actually making all of these comments he is coming in a close second.

Carmelo Anthony Takes Hat Off 'to Myself' for Recent Strong Play

[rquoter]DENVER -- Carmelo Anthony congratulated himself Saturday.

Then again, anybody who has averaged 40.3 points in his past three games would seem to have that right.

"I think it takes a strong-willed person, a strong-minded person, to deal with the stuff that I deal with and still go out there and go to work every day and perform on a nightly basis,'' the Denver forward said about trade rumors that have swirled all season as the Feb. 24 trade deadline approaches. "I take my hat off to myself for dealing with all this stuff that's going on and still be able to go out there and play at the high level that I can play at. I really don't think an average person can walk in my shoes. I don't think that.''

Anthony, who wasn't actually wearing a hat during the interview that he could take off, sure hasn't been average lately on the court. Earlier this week, he tied his career high with 50 points against Houston and had 42 against Dallas, the latter being in a dramatic 121-120 Nuggets victory that stopped a 10-game Mavericks winning streak.

Since Jan. 31 at New Jersey, Anthony is averaging 33.4 points in seven games. That would be his post-fast scoring average.

Anthony revealed Saturday he did the Daniel Fast between Jan. 9-30. He said he initially was sluggish on the court but he credits the fast now for his recent surge. If you're keep track at home, his scoring average during his fasting days was 21.8.

"I just feel healthy,'' said Anthony, who dubbed this the hottest offensive stretch of his eight-year NBA career. "That's the No. 1 thing. My legs feel good. My body feels good and I'm starting to make shots. ... That fast that I did was really helpful and the timing that I did it, starting beginning Jan. 9 and ending Jan. 30.

"During that time, I felt sluggish. I wasn't eating that much. I wasn't getting the right foods in my system. And then after that I really started feeling real good about myself. My health started feeling good. My legs started feeling better. I guess they say you got to lose some things to gain some things.''

Anthony said he didn't follow the full rules of the Daniel Fast, which would have required a four-day stretch in which he didn't eat at all. But he found it tough enough.

"I didn't eat no meats, no bread, no sweets for 21 days, no soda,'' he said. "I almost killed myself. But now I guess I've paid the cost for it. I feel great ... I don't drink soda no more. After that, I still don't eat meat that much. No breads. I feel good, tough ... (During the fast), I was drinking Naked Juices, a lot of protein shakes, salads, fruits. That was it, man. A lot of veggies.''

Anthony said he lost some weight. He doesn't know how much since he doesn't want to step on a scale and find out.

Anthony also claims to have had an awakening during his fast.

"It was mental,'' Anthony said. "It was spiritual. It was emotional, man. And during that whole time it was a lot of prayer with myself. And just taking some time out and just getting some clarity on things with myself for my career, with my life, and it really helped me. I started seeing things a lot more clearer from every aspect of my life.''

If Anthony is praying that something specific happens by the trade deadline, he didn't reveal what. He could be shipped to New York, his believed preference, by the trade deadline, although no deal now appears imminent.

With the Nuggets continuing to exercise patience and having left Saturday on a key three-game trip before next weekend's All-Star break, the odds of Anthony being dealt prior to the Feb. 20 All-Star Game are not high. Anthony is on the trading block due to not having signed a three-year, $64.47 million contract that has been on the table since last June and being able to opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer.

"I don't really think we can go through that mentally about the what ifs,'' Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo, who hit a 19-foot jumper at the buzzer to beat Dallas on Thursday, said of the trade rumors. "We have to deal with what is. The fact of the matter for another week and a half (until the trade deadline), it is what it's going to be. Until something's definite, we just have to compete to win.''

Anthony on Saturday shrugged off comments he made to reporters last Wednesday after a shootaround at Golden State that he would "take a real hard look'' at signing the extension with the Nuggets if he's still with them past the trade deadline.

"That's just part of keeping my options open,'' Anthony said. "That's the same thing I've been saying since the beginning of the year. It just so happens that I said I would keep this option open as well. Nothing has changed.''

Indeed Anthony has talked before about signing the extension with the Nuggets although that was the first time he's addressed that possibility in a few months. Anthony talked with FanHouse about it in October and reiterated in November the possibility of re-signing with Nuggets, saying, "Sure, why not? I don't see why not.''

Anthony on Saturday again stressed he's got nothing against Denver, where he's played his entire career since being taken with the No. 3 pick in the 2003 draft. With all the rumors swirling, Anthony was asked what he believes was the most ridiculous one he's seen.

"That I hate Denver,'' Anthony said. "I laughed at that.''

Most of the time, though, Anthony claims to have not paid attention to the rumors. He reiterated what he said last month about trying to stay away from watching television.

"I pay attention to it sometimes,'' Anthony said of trade rumors. "But I haven't really been reading the articles this whole year, man. It's been tough for me to read the articles and paying attention to what's really going on. It's hard for me to watch TV. It's hard. I got to just watch movies. I know my iTunes bill is probably outrageous right now.''

Of course, Anthony has had other things lately to occupy his time. That includes watching his diet and tipping his hat to himself.[/rquoter]

    Knicks concerned about Carmelo situation

[rquoter]Carmelo Anthony will go to the All-Star Game this weekend in Los Angeles as a member of the Denver Nuggets , a person with knowledge of the situation said. But although a trade won't happen this week, the source said the Knicks have "more of a sense of urgency'' to get a deal done for the four-time All-Star before the Feb. 24 trade deadline.

"They don't want to overbid," the source said, "but they also don't want to be left without a chair when the music stops."

Though no formal offers have been made by the Knicks, it has been clear that - with the knowledge that Anthony prefers to be in New York with a three-year, $65-million extension as part of the trade - they believe they have some leverage in negotiations with Denver .

The Nuggets, however, have maintained a stance that they won't trade Anthony if they're not satisfied with an offer for him.

Newsday reported Saturday that the Nuggets have been talking with other teams, with the Rockets as one dark-horse candidate, and also are interested in re-engaging talks with the Nets. Perhaps it's posturing, but the Knicks are concerned, the source said.

ESPN reported Friday that the Nuggets want Wilson Chandler , Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov , along with multiple first-round picks, from the Knicks. That's a steep price that has led to some debate within the Knicks' hierarchy, according to multiple sources.

Mike D'Antoni , two sources said, is putting up the most resistance against giving up so many young players. Donnie Walsh has long been in favor of adding Anthony, whom he has told confidants is one of the toughest players in the league. Team owner James Dolan , multiple sources say, is on board with making the investment to add another star to join $100-million man Amar'e Stoudemire.

On Sunday, Stoudemire received treatment on his sprained right big toe that caused him to miss Saturday night's victory over the Nets, the first game he has missed since the end of the 2008-09 season. It ended a streak of 134 consecutive games, not including 16 playoff games in 2009-10. The team did not practice Sunday.

The Knicks have one more game before the All-Star break, Wednesday night against the Hawks at the Garden. Stoudemire said he expects to be ready to play by then. "And if I am, then the All-Star Game will be a go," he said. "And if not, I won't be able to play as much."

Considering how banged up his body is and how important he is to the playoff push with 31 games left, the Knicks probably would prefer to see Stoudemire not do much at all during All-Star weekend. But he and Anthony are expected to be as sought after as Stoudemire and LeBron James were last season, when there were rumors that the Cavaliers were involved in trade talks for Stoudemire.

Those talks did not result in a deal by the deadline. The Knicks are hoping for a different result this time.[/rquoter]
