Nomar, how can you sit there and trash this version as being nonfactual yet you say to stick with the John Wayne version which is a joke in itself?
For an attempt at better accuracy, read this article - it's surprising: What was the Mexicans' version of the Alamo attack? -- droxford
Man, first Home on the Range sucks, now this comes in 3rd place only making 9 million. It tied Johnson Family Vacation which only came out in half as many theatres. LMAO, Disney is in trouble. Who are the micromanaging idiots who forced Ron Howard and Russel Crowe to leave this movie? I know what probably happened to these idiots though. You're fired.
just heard it was a majoy flop in theaters over the long weekend. Cost: 150million Brought in: 9million
Pretty sure it was Eisner who insisted on running Howard off because Howard wanted to make it an R-rated movie with battle scenes that pushed what Saving Private Ryan did. Since he's basically a TV director (in style), I'm not sure Ron Howard would've made all that much better of a movie.
Jeeze mrpaige, you are criticizing Ron Howard now? What does a director have to do to get respect from you?
I respect a lot of directors. Rom Howard has, traditionally, directed in a TV style, which works well for most stories, especially closer character studies. However, he's not yet shown a strength for a more epic movie, at least not the scope of what it sounded like he was wanting to try for The Alamo. So, I don't know that Ron Howard would've ended up with a better movie, given his previous work and his usual style because it's somewhat out of his wheelhouse. But Ron Howard usually does what he does very well. He just has an overreliance on medium shots, which likely dates to his TV days. Plus, who else have I said I don't respect? (And don't say Peter Jackson because I don't have an opinion on his ability as a director. I've only seen one of his movies. I just don't think going with a remake of a classic film is the right way for him to go and would rather he try something original again now that he can write his own ticket). Nobody is perfect. There's room to criticize anyone.
Was the movie historically accurate? From my knowledge, Crockett wasn't executed, but died in the battle. I could be wrong though...
As I stated previously, if you're looking for accuracy, check out this article Crockett was captured and then executed - hacked to death by Mexican sabres. -- droxford
