What's up with everyone who has a log in name that has to do with bashing Tmac always comes up with a bad thread?
1. Scola 30 years old. What you see is what you get. No more upside and he's set to become a free agent after this season, and you can fully except he'll won't come cheap. 2. Landry is 26 years old with one season left on his contract. After how Morey tried to lowball in his rookie season then after his rookie season, it will be interesting to see if he still wants to resign. Remember he will become a unrestricted free agent so we can lose him for nothing. And if Yao comes back next year and many more years to come, Landry's production won't be that good anyways. And his defense isn't that good. He has ok upside, but he's ceiling isn't that high compared to Blair. 3. Chuck- Chuck Hayes is nothing more then a bit player when Yao Comes back. 4. Blair was only 19 when he got drafted. Even though he's small for the 4, that boy can rebound the hell of the ball, and his upside is through the roof. While we could lose both Scola and Landry in the next year or so, we could of had Blair for 800k for 4 seasons like we did for Bud and Taylor. And I'm not upset, I'm just saying the Rockets made a mistake. I don't care if you think this thread is pointless, somebody would of started it after the Spurs game, because HE WILL HAVE A MONSTER GAME AGAINST THE ROCKETS BECAUSE OF THEIR INABILITY TO BOX OUT OF LATE. Mind as well be be. For the posters rating this thread one star , if you guys think the Rockets made the right choice by selecting Taylor over Blair, you need to slap yourself in the face. Taylor can't even get ahead of Bud in the depth chart and he was selected 13 picks before him.
lolwut If you can get anything from the second round it's a minor miracle. Your only complaint about Morey is that he can't steal everything?
Wow, he has NO ACL's? And can still play? I didn't know that that is possible. That is very impressing. Nevertheless, I am very happy with C-Bud. I still don't know why he didn't play much in the 2nd half yesterday because he played a very nice 1st half offensively. However, we certainly could need a Bigman. We had lots of problems defensively and offensively with Bogut yesterday. DA is not strong enough and likes to shoot more, Chuck is way too small for Center (although he does a really nice job, considering his size) and Carl is a PF either. So basically I am happy with Budinger but also admit that we really need a good center.
We dont really need him. In fact, I hope morey only get cbud and dont do any other things last summer...
so what at the price of a 2 year second round pick contract, surely it is worth the risk for the possible reward
What reward? We are going to mainly play Scolandry this year and maybe Landry + Other next season. We don't really need another undersized power forward, even one as talented as Deljuan Blair, especially when you know Blair is a ticking time bomb. Blair adds a youthfulness, to the 4-5 positions that the Spurs haven't had in years. To him the pick up was necessary, for the Rockets, it would have been wasteful, when we were hurting in potential scorers thus why we drafted (or bought) a few.
You act like this is the first time this matter has been discussed. And that's great that you don't care what I think. Judging by the rating of this thread, it's very much evident that people seem to care what you think.
And for what it's worth, nothing in this post is accurate. At all. This fallacy that Blair is a four is a rather humorous stance to me as somebody that actually watches him play and knows his strengths, weaknesses and limitations. At no point in Blair's basketball career has he been predominately a four. He may get a few minutes there technically as a Spur, but the overwhelming majority of his minutes as a pro come from the five spot and he spent 100% of his HS and college time there. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why that's the case. He's not particularly mobile thus would struggle against opposing four's -- especially ones with range. He's undoubtedly at his best fighting in the trenches, boxing people out and dominating space underneath the basket. His offensive repertoire consists of basic (yet effective) short jump hooks, spin and baseline power moves and bank shots utilizing the glass. That's all in addition to all the putbacks he gets. His rebounding ability speaks for itself -- in theory, moving him away from the basket squanders his best contribution in some capacity. Is he undersized for a C? Of course. He's a got a nice wingspan and hold his own against the taller the guys but 6'7" is still 6'7". The thing is, Blair is a classic case of disregarding all the norms and conventional wisdom and just looking at what's right in front. Simply put: he's a man amongst boys. He's a bulldog -- your classic workhorse that has a high motor, outstanding physical strength and a nose for the ball that makes you sit there and gawk. When you see a player like that you have to trust your gut and go with what you see. He may not be your typical 6'9, 220 lb softie with upside and yada yada but the dude obviously can play. At some point common sense has to prevail. And not that I care to participate in this whole "Second guess Morey, cry about something that's done and over with" theme here but had Morey taken Blair, under no circumstances would that have been a "wasted pick". Wasted pick -- are you kidding me? If we had Blair he would be starting at center for us right now. But again, this type of talk gets us nowhere and i'm happy with C-Bud and all the other talent that Morey continually swipes late in the draft. I wanted Blair on this team badly but I got over it and so should everybody else.
You know, out of curiosity, wouldn't the Spurs well, have to be willing to give up the rights to Blair in exchange for whatever we gave them? And last I checked, the Spurs are not an incompetent franchise. I don't see what Morey was supposed to do, given I don't think the Spurs were willing to pass on Blair's rights, especially given their desperate need for youth.
I still think Scola is way better Plus Buddinger is a stud, so in your face X2 filthy Spurs fans.
You think a WR in the NFL doesn't run & jump an awful lot? More football players blow out knees then NBA players, so I might think knees go through a lot more in the NFL.
I'm guessing the idea is that we take Blair with Taylor's pick. I agree with those who thinks this just wasn't enough of a need. Since you can't stash the guy, he has to beat out Anderson/Landry/Scola/Hayes for minutes. And quite frankly, even at the level he's playing now, Blair may not have many minutes in our rotation. And this is for a player who has FAR exceeded expectations. At the time of the draft, Morey obviously felt that he need to strengthen our wing positions with T-Mac/Wafer gone. Taylor/Budinger seemed right then. And not too bad even now.
Except if I'm correct, we didn't buy the pick, we bought the rights to Taylor from whomever drafted him. That's how I remember things watching draft night.
No. Morey drafted him. Similar to how Memphis drafted Gay for us. The reason such trades don't go down before the picks are made is because neither side knows who'll be available. For example, the team we bought Taylor from might've wanted a player who ended up gotten taken. Or perhaps Taylor goes in the 1st round, in which case Morey would back off. But Morey 100% drafted every 2nd rounder we've had: Landry, Llul, Dorsey, Budinger, Taylor, etc.
Woulda,Coulda,Shoulda that's what this thread is about!! Morey didn't draft him for a reason and damn good one, injury prone. It's his Job to do what's best for the team being the GM and all I wouldn't of drafted him either, no acl's the man is going to not have too long of a career. I give him credit for what he's been doing for the old spurs. Big Bud was our steal. Blair was theirs.... For now.
Ah, Okay then. Either way, I have a funny feeling that the Rockets don't have much interest in injury-prone players for some reason. Blair would probably get destroyed playing summer league if he played for us. Could have been worse.
