I thought Lowry is a good shooter. When someone shoot great at the free throw line, YOU KNOW he's a good shooter. He has good form and good stroke...so i think he's a good shooter. People had misconception about him.
Well he played for a very low profile team like the Grizzlies. People didn't really know who he was, so people would just look at stats. Kyle Lowry is quite underrated on this team and overall. I believe he will get a chance to start next season, he will race Brooks during the off-season. That will be fun news to look out for during the off-season.
I rewatched the Phoenix game, and Lowry didn't play that great defensively, in my opinion. He keeps a body on his guy to slow him down one on one, but he doesn't really keep guys in front of him. Is that part of the game plan? Off the ball, he doesn't chase guys around screens quite as well as Aaron ... doesn't have the same foot speed.
I observed this as well. Brooks actually did a much better defensive job on Nash than either Lowry or Battier did. It's partly because of his body ... it's easier for Brooks to fight through screens because of his leaner frame than Lowry or anyone else, but I thought he was also more disciplined than Lowry was defending Nash. Perhaps the game wouldn't have been so close if Adelman had kept him on Nash through the 4th quarter ... but then there was also the problem of guarding Barbosa.
I thinkļ¼ Ab fit to faster offense sys on those games vs pHX,MIA,NO,etc. Lowry fit to denfense sys and aggrensive against opps such as UTA,SPUr,etc.
I think Aaron is particularly well-suited to guard the fleetier guards like Nash, Parker, and Paul, because those guys aren't going to get blocked on their jump shots anyways, their decision-making is too good. The goal when defending them is just to stay in front, do not allow the penetration, and I think Brooks is good enough at that; he just gets burned on the high screen and roll still. But for a lot of the other more physical point guards that aren't quite as fast like Deron Williams, Jameer Nelson, and Rajon Rondo, I think Lowry is Morey's exact answer to that. We made our runs when Lowry came in the game against Utah, and he did seem to do a better job of bothering Williams than Brooks did. Right now our tandem is working well. Hopefully by next year both players will have grown sufficiently for there to be a great battle for the starting spot. I still think Lowry has the highest upside though. As others have pointed out, he doesn't shoot well at the three, but his form is good. That leads me to believe that he can train himself to get better. Too bad neither of them can train themselves to grow taller!
Since LOWRY has been in the team, I have NOT seen him give a bad POST pass to Yao or Scola. LOWRY is a great passer and I am glad about that.
what seems clear to me is that Adelman doesn't really have a doghouse, and that AB and Lowry will both get time... apparently sometimes together. AB's weaknesses are Lowry's strengths, and vice versa. Have to say, I'm super impressed with Lowry's court presence in leading the team. always seems to give solid passes to Yao. Gets the team in a good rhythm. AB has already impressed me with his speed, clutchness, and three point shooting. Overall I love how both of them seem to work well with our other players. We are more of TEAM with this tandem at the reigns. For now, I see AB with the team's reigns, and Lowry as the perfect sub if we need more size/strength, more calming stability, or to muscle into the paint.
they both bring different skills, and it's working so i'm a happy camper, i'm pretty excited to see how they mature as they get more time to play. they just started getting regular PT, think about them in a couple of years. they'll be more experienced, and better. i don't care who starts, as long as we're winning.
Brooks has a bad habbit of picking up his dribble before he finds a good passing option and getting stuck with the ball until someone can come bail him out. These may not directly result in turn overs, but often do contribute to rushed shots or poor possesions for the team.
Game by game, Lowry plays better and better, and his PER goes up to 16.8 now with 123 ORtg and 105 DRtg. Amazing! Our PG position is set for years! Lowry should start.
