Struggle or not, it was so over the top it came across as phony to me...and I'm a Halle fan. Her choices of scripts since then leave a lot to be desired though.
AB You must learn Jorje speeche. . . . Buffoon is a euphemism for. . well you know . . . . . um. . . .'URBAN' Rocket River
Man, you mangled that pretty badly. Earlier, Rock had joked that there are only 4 stars while the other actors are just popular people. He joked that Jude Law was one of the popular people and that he's in like every movie that came out last year, but that studios shouldn't cast guys like him, they should wait for one of the stars to be in their movie. When Penn came out to give the best actress award, he said something like "I don't want to sound like I don't have a sense of humor, but to answer our host's question, Jude Law is one of our most wonderful and talented actors and for every one great actor like him, there are 5 equally good actresses in Hollywood like our nominees. . ."
I admire Clint Eastwood. He has blossomed in later age as a fantastic filmmaker. "Unforgiven" and "Mystic River" were both incredible works of art. The only question I have from last night is.... Who does Martin Scorcese have to kill to win best director? Granted, "The Aviator" is no "Raging Bull" or "Goodfellas", but hell, he is one of the greatest directors of all time and has never won best director. I wonder if he ever will.
Good for Jamie. I don't know if the guy was faking tears or not. But I can certainly imagine having your emotions take control in a moment like that. This isn't scoring a touchdown...this is winning the Super Bowl, and we certainly see tears after that. Seems like a nice guy. I was rooting for him.
I don't know why anybody would even consider that he was faking tears. At the Golden Globes, you could see he was trying to fight them back in a "I'm too macho to cry" kind of way, but he couldn't win that fight. On Barbara Walters he made a quip about people making fun of him for crying, but that's it's ok. I don't blame him though, watching that special, I found out that his parents, who were together, not seperated or anything, and in their 30's, abondoned him and left him in the care of his grandma. How crazy is that? No wonder he's so attached to her, she raised him all by herself.
I remember when Jordan won on Father's day, he ran to the locker room and bawled his eyes out since it was his first Championship after his dad was murdered.
I was hoping and thinking "Best Director" should have gone to Martin Scorcese. Clint has already won it for "Unforgiven". For someone like Martin to never have won it is unbelievable. I think he deserves one before he dies but, apparently, the Academy thinks otherwise. It's almost like there is a bias against him. Clint is a great director but we know that and he has all the recognition in the world to go with it already. Now, your just feeding the Clint ego. Clint is great...Clint is great. Yes, we know. How could we not know? I think Jamie Foxx has won or been nominated for his last Oscar unless he also wants to take up the role of Stevie Wonder in the movie "Stevie" when it comes up. Or, maybe he could do Lionel Richie in "Hello...your the only one". LOL
I don't know about you guys, but the highlight last night was when Pennelope Cruz and Salma Hayek presented whatever the hell they presented...Damn did they look very very hot...Don't know how to post pics, but that would be much appreciated... I think Leonardo was robbed, but that's just my opinion...Other than that, I guess I need to go check out Clint's movie as they won all the big categories...
Yea...they were hot but listening to them butcher English kind of brought the heat down. I was reading a lot of comments on Chris Rock's performance. A lot of people were completely turned off by his divergence into politics with the whole Gap at war with Banana Republic thing. Then, during that, he said people were killed invading Banana Republic even though they don't make tank tops...let alone toxic tank tops. I'm sure that sat well with the troops' families...NOT. I personally thought it was in poor taste to go into bashing the president in front of the entire world or even talking politics at all. The only other thing he seemed to have in his arsenal was ripping Jude Law to shreds. I guess he was trying to be controversial but I don't think he came across well to most people.
Chris Rock wasn't as good as I thought he would be but when the Oscar's selected him as host they knew what they were getting and that's what Rock brings to the table. Furthermore, of the TV shows I've done, I had to submit my set for network approval before I could perform, I'm sure the Oscar committee knew exactly what Rock was going to say before he said it. But I agree with you, it was poor material selection on his part...
