You should give Christian's Totem a try. I've been frequenting Dry Creek lately, great burgers, music and homemade lemonade.
My buddy and I used to hang out at Corner B fairly regularly and are in good with the Saturday bartender, who sets us up with free rounds. We'd like to think its our beer drinking prowess, though my buddy once ate 3 bistro burgers in one sitting. The only problem is the crowd - lots of tourists. Oh, and they raised prices on mcsorleys for the first time in decades recently . Other good burgers in Manhattan: Molly's Shebeen (22nd & 3rd) is among my favorites ever and The Burger Joint on 18th & third (small and awesome)
Raised the price of McSorley's?!?!?! That's an outrage! BTW, I didn't think Corner Bistro was much of a tourist place (it's not that easy to find). If that's the case now, then it's a real shame. My brother and I used to meet there for lunch occasionally, and it was filled with nothing but locals on their lunch break. If "Bob and Patty from Minnesota" (and their screaming kids) are visiting now, I might not want to go back. Stick to Times Square and Rockefeller Center, you damn tourists! Jackson Hole has pretty good burgers, IMO. Silver Spurs is decent, too (but nowhere near the top). Also, they opened up a Manhattan Burger Co. near my old apartment, and I thought it was okay. (The dipping sauces make the burger, though.)
So question for everyone: who has the best burger in Houston? I've always thought Fuddruckers was the best (I find their stuff better than Beck's Prime), but I wonder if there are restaurants I don't know of with better burgers.
I like Pappas Burger and there is this one spot I go to once in a while at NW Mall called Tommy's (I think he changed the name recently, but can't remember what it's called now, may be NW Grill or something close to that). TXLC also make a good burger.
I had a Champ Burger once and it was the best burger I had ever had. Is that place still open...and where the hell is it cause I can't remember?
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=98800&highlight=burger+houston And Fatty should have put Christians on the poll....coz thats my vote.
Methinks the only person who could vote for Fuddrucker's is someone who'd never been to Tookies. Stomp's Ice House Special, baby.
Tookies wasn't that great. I was very disappointed as the person who told me about Tookies really hyped them up. My experience at In-N-Out in LA was disappointing also. White Castle all the way!
Well, I should clarify. It's not really "times square" style tourists from out of town, it's more "timeout NY" style tourists from points more local, meaning folks who sort of aren't regulars and don't know how things work but come from crosstown or outer boroughs or burbs to it as a destination because they read somewhere that they're supposed to. Not as bad as the former of course but it does make it uncomfortably crowded at times(hint: NEVER wait in line with all the yokels, just hang around the near corner of the bar and swoop in like a ninja when the stools are vacated- that's a 'regular' move.)
You're the first person I've ever heard say that - did you eat the Stomp's Ice House Special and get the onion rings?
had an awesome burger in some bar in austin, very dark place with a small balcony insid, with a bar downstairs, have the remember the name, the burger was fricken awesome
I assume you are asking about Tookies: Don't remember. Tell me exactly what to order next time I go down there.
Forget I posted this. I'll let you know how it was next time. Just woke up and still have major cobwebs.
