This or Sengun/Jalen taking the qualifying offer is not really a real scenario in the NBA of today, for players like this. The money is too big. The meta from players and agencies is to lock in the long term money and years available to them because the scale is hundreds of millions of dollars. Very different from late 2000s or early 2010s when we were talking about ~$10M here or there. Ayton, Hayward, Bogdanovic, LaVine, THJ, Otto Porter, Kanter, Crabbe, Tyler Johnson, Harrison Barnes… all 4 year offer sheets. Can’t think of a single 2+1 offer sheet at major money in the last 10 years, although I could be forgetting someone. A Sengun-level player is not punting on ~$100M extra guaranteed money because he’s butthurt we offered him ~$4M/yr below the max, come on. The guy just had an injury where he saw his entire career flash before his eyes 3 months ago.
