The CF December wet dream… perfectly timed leading into the winter meetings as well.

Yep… and thats before realizing that any of these owners will get a windfall if the team ever gets put up for sale, relative for what the ownership group paid for it prior.

You think they want to keep him or trade him?

Could see either option… he has very little trade value, but could be the final piece of any multi-player deal for teams still enamored by his stuff.

Or he could be a low risk/high reward possible bullpen option… health (and mental wellness) presumed, of course.

That was about my take as well. My feeling is that he might be more valuable as a potential contributor on our club than he would as a trade asset.

Could be wrong but hasn't there been a clip like this the last 2 years? Then some fans including myself gets excited but then we get let down lol. Hopefully this year he finally stays healthy and contributes.

Probably so. Many years running now, both he and Lance are hoped to contribute something.

Wouldnt it be something if they both did?

At least Lance has made a comeback after surgery before… and looked as good as any other point in his career when he did (2021).

Whitley hasn’t even been healthy enough to make the big leagues, let alone have sustained success there.

Ohtani is really going to drag ass announcing his decision just to sign with the most obvious choice in the dodgers.

I am just happy it doesn’t look like he is going to the Rangers, Mariners, or Yankees. Ohtani on the Blue Jays is not ideal but better than having him be a major factor for one of Houston’s division rivals.

My guess is also SF, with the Dodgers a close 2nd. Toronto is the longshot candidate. I will be extremely surprised if he signs with any team other than those 3.

But are the giants really set up well to win consistently?
I honestly don’t know **** about them and their farm system.
As much as it pains me to say it if I were Ohtani I would pick dodgers or yankees.
At least you know they will be in the postseason or close to it each year.
Also a large market to showcase yourself.

Giants *should* be able to field a top 5-10 payroll and their only current commitment beyond 2025 is Logan Webb’s team-friendly extension. Their farm is average and they don’t have a ton of other long-term pieces in place outside of Webb, Harrison, Matos, Luciano, Doval, and Bailey (all but Webb project as complementary players, not superstars). But I think they can afford to sign Ohtani and still have the ability to add 3-4 more significant/star contracts. I actually think it makes some sense for them to sign Ohtani and limit him to keep/get him healthy and use 2024 as a rebuild, trading away Yaz, Davis, Wade, Estrada, Flores, Conforto, Haniger, DeSclafani, Cobb, and Rogers to have a super farm. Then go into 2025 adding free agents and using the farm to start their long term run centered around Ohtani.

The Angels can afford to sign Ohtani and spend money. How they spend their money is another story. The Dodgers are the only team that has shown to use their wealth well with the Yankees until recently in second place.

Is anyone doubting that Ohtani will sign with the Dodgers?? He wants to get paid and he wants to win and signing with the Dodgers means he doesn't even have to move.

I've always felt Ohtani to the Dodgers is a given. I would be extremely surprised if he signs anywhere else.

The Angels are screwed under the burden of the Rendon and Trout contracts. Once Rendon went bad, Trout started getting hurt all the time, and Adell didn’t pan out it became very hard to see a path forward for them even with Ohtani. The Giants are probably very similar to the Angels only without being saddled with 2 humongous bad contracts.

I believe the Yankees are the massive wild card for this offseason. If they end up landing Soto, I expect they are going to go all after two or three of the top free agents. Yamamoto, Jung Hoo Lee, Cody Bellinger, and 3B Chapman all fit a need. There is a ton of pressure on Cashman to get it done this year. This is why the Yankees were pushing very hard to land Soto before these big-ticket items start to sign. San Diego wants MLB players that are ready to go now, and they will that will hurt the Yankees. They are going to have to spend money...
