Looks like big changes coming next season. We have one of the most analytical defenses in the big leagues. Takes away a huge defensive and pitching advantage for us. In fact, we have the highest shift usage for LHB in the majors. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/visuals/team-positioning Being paranoid, but feels like this is targeted towards us/analytical teams. Hence, why Lunhow was blackballed. https://www.sportsinfosolutions.com/2014/04/24/how-the-astros-became-baseballs-king-of-shifts/
I can’t tell you how happy I am about the pitch clock and about the no more then 2 steps off the rubber. If they get the standard run of the mill 9 inning game down to 2:30 or 2:40 it’s a game changer for my enjoyment as a season ticket holder and avid game. 2:30 baseball game is about the greatest sport ever. 3:30 baseball game that goes 9 innings and is something like 5-2 is just not much fun.
Let me know when they shorten the commercial breaks, Until then, the games will last over 3 hours. That's why a MLB game will always be 45 minutes longer than a MiLB game with exactly the same time of field play. Start putting a clock on the time between the last out and first pitch of the next half inning. THATS why the game is so long.
They already do that. And have the clock up at the game. I’m comparing apples to apples minor league game have lost like 23 minutes. This is going to be great.
I think teams can adjust for that with a speedy outfield that would allow them to bring in one corner OF and the CF to cover one side near the dirt. Another rule change that favors Myles Straw types.
plus more steals with bigger bases Tucker could easily be looking at .300/30/30 campaigns. Extend the king!
Yordan's had at least a a dozen hits taken away by the rover playing in intermediate LF. Not sure how I feel about all this yet. I totally understand and agree with wanting more action and less dead-time, which you're going to get. Nothing makes for a shorter game than more baserunners though, so I don't know how much shorter the games will be, and don't particularly care.
RRemarkable. They just found a way to ADD 23 minutes worth of commercials at home and dead time at the game.
What's the typical time between each half inning so they can squeeze as many commercials in as possible? My guess would be 3-4 minutes times 16 or 17 breaks or 48 minutes to 68 minutes. My guess is that MiLB teams take 1 - 1 1/2 minutes. These are where I get approximately 45 minutes extra just for commercial dead time.
The non response last season to extension talks doesn't make me hopeful. I think we are seeing another Correa move. I'm worth a Gazillion a year until I reach 65.
That's the longest two minutes I've ever experienced and it happens anytime I watch a ball game. I'm a feeble old man and can go to the john, make a sandwich and a drink and still be back well before the next action. It must be a time warp.
Honestly I can't understand why the owners want this. Longer games is more ads, more food and beer sold, and more time for the kids to talk parents into buying that jersey.
Commercial breaks aren't changing, they didn't go to commercial for throws to first. Getting little Timmy, or me, happily to bed at a reasonable hour is worth far more than concessions or stadium merch, which is a drop in the bucket for revenue. If attend a weekday game you rarely get out of downtown before 11
