i think we have to keep that 2023 pick. It could be our lifeline for next season. We just don’t know how good or bad we’ll be next year, but I’m not willing to bet the 2023 pick on it. We should have enough other player assets and draft capital to move up for a player we are in love with. Folks should remember that trading some of our younger players should be on the table as well. Right now we don’t have enough minutes for all the youth we are trying to develop. As much as I like Tate and KJ, if we draft a 3/4 I don’t see where there minutes would come from. Plus we need a mix of youth and veterans; we can’t just have a team of 20/21 yr olds and expect to look competent next yr.
i just posted this on Twitter without even reading your post. 100% wholeheartedly agree. In fact if there is a way we can leverage assets and get 2 of these guys our defensive projection moving into the future takes a major leap forward. In addition to our top pick, If we walk out of this draft with 2 of those switchable monsters we are set. Give me 2 of Sochan, Eason, and Daniels. Come on Stone, we have the assets, get this done.
In the scenario where you trade Tate or Wood and 17 and 2023 frp for Bledsoe and 7 to get Sharpe you are just trading out one vet for another. Sharpe would get a development year off the bench. It’s a big IF, but if Sharpe is generational, then you are just trading out Sharpe for the 2023 pick. The 2023 pick would need minutes to develop anyway. You could make the argument that a development year for Sharpe now would set us up better than a developmental year for whatever pick we get in 2023. If we land a big and keep the vets, we are going to be competitive for the play-in so the 2023 frp isn’t worth as much. It really depends on how you feel about Sharp and how good you think we will be next year. I just don’t think we can intentionally tank next year like we did this year. Jalen and KPJ showed that without Wood they can handle the scoring load. With additional defense, we will be much more competitive even with all our youngsters.
great points, and I completely agree that just by doing nothing we should be better next year standing on the development of our young guys alone. But I’m also skeptical of this draft relative to 2023. Most experts agree 2023 will be a much stronger draft. And with the lotto the way it is, any team that doesn’t make the playoffs has a legit chance at an early lotto pick. So I really covet that 2023 pick. I like Sharpe a lot, and I think he can play the 3 position in the nba, but he’s being pushed up draft boards by a weak draft. I don’t think it’s clear that swapping out 2023 for Sharpe is a wise move. I also think that we have a great shot at moving up and landing another core player with other assets. I don’t think we should be scared to roll the Brooklyn pick into a future pick if we cant trade up far enough to land the player we want. It’s gonna be hard to develop two more rookies.
Yes, I like the idea of moving the 17th to a future draft if we can’t move up. It is a priority to get a big either through the draft this year or next or through trade. We are loaded with combo guards, so if we pick 4th I think we really have to consider moving up to get a big or trade for one no matter what it takes. I don’t think there is a big at 17 that does the trick for me, but in Stone I trust.
One should be available imo. There are about 15 top 10 players in this draft. And I'm in favor of trading up if necessary or trading away #17 for a high upside player like 6'9 Jalen Johnson.
Been on the Eason train for as long as anybody. Just think this kid has a chance to be a defensive monster. While I love him at the 4 with Sengun at the 5, I wonder how the Tickets would okay Eason and Smith if he were picked at the top? Both can be interchangeable at the 3/4 but I think both are probably best at the 4.
What is your opinion about SF 6'8 Kendall Brown at 17, if the Rockets aren't able to move up? I read that his wingspan is 6'10. He can do pretty much everything for a athletic role player. He does need to improve his 3 point shot though. @ApacheWarrior
He is ok, I'm kinda partial to EJ Liddell, Kessler if available. I'm not a fan Kessler on the perimeter but put him in a defensive zone with his basketball I Q. 5 blocks a game in college placed near the rim. 2-3 zone. EJ Liddell shot 37.4% (3P%)...30.5 PER.... 120 ORtg......100 DRtg
Yes, I have a pool of players I have grouped near #17: Tari Eason (probably wont be there at #17) EJ Liddell Kessler followed close by are *Patrick Baldwin Kendall Brown then Wendell Moore Had a bad year on a bad team while being the number 1 option. But I know his body of work with team USA is much better. I love his abity to shoot anywhere in the half court with a good quick release. Lucas, Bullard, Gerald Green can coach him up on foot work. I need more long wingspans that can hit catch-n-Shoot shots. Kendall Brown is an to option.
My dream scenario is Jabari or Chet with Eason or Sochan. We get longer, scrappier and all of those guys have high ceilings.
Sochan is a Ron Artest type , who can pass. Eason is longer and more fluid. He appears to have more upside despite not being a 3 point shooter. Sochan is more consistent on defense.
