    Astros ended “moneyball”?

I’ll guess he’ll be back within 5 years.

He pioneered a lot of what is happening today, but I guess he realized hes just spinning his wheels at this point and that there are other GMs/franchises that do it better and have passed him up. This hopefully makes it a lot easier for the Astros within the division for years to come, depending on the next hire and since ownership never spends money.

They were still winning 97 games a year with virtually zero overpaid players.

The randomness of the post season results is just that. Has nothing to do with the system he built.

he’s either bored... or he’s angling to take over another team. Apparently the Red Sox requested permission this past year before they hired Bloom. They’ve never been able to let go.

WSJ has a very good article on this today. Beane co-chairs a special interest fund that will merge with the Red Sox (and Liverpool) ownership group and go public. So Beane will own a part of the Red Sox, creating a conflict of interest.

So the word is he will work with that group on other sports properties, especially in soccer, that they own or might buy.

You have to suspect eventually that will lead him back to the Red Sox directly.

Very few people actually read the book and know what "moneyball" even is.
