Now it should be pointed out that even though Carr might be traded (if this rumor is true) and well should be, that everything isn't completely to blame on him. It only means that it's best for Carr and the Texans that he moves on, it does not mean that all 10 losses were his fault. (I admit I'm being overly facetious) I wish Carr the best. I hoped he would be a solid QB for the Texans for years to come, as I really like the guy. Here's hoping he puts it together elsewhere (assuming there's anything to this rumor).
You're right. I've just seen so much campaigning done, I thought it'd be fun to gather see everyone's preferences in one thread. It wasn't well received; I shouldn't have put it up there.
David Carr will be traded, and Jake Plummer will be the Texans quarterback next season. Plummer will compete with Sage Rosenfels and a rookie Gary Kubiak wants to develop. -- Houston Chronicle next rumor from article ... According to sources, Jerry Jones is still leaning toward naming 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner as the seventh coach in Cowboys history. -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram There it is.
What I want to know is why has it taken them another whole year to know what most anyone who has ever watched a football game knew ..BEFORE last year? DD
I disagree with this premise (most everyone who has ever watched football knew). Some folks in the NFL that I respect highly were singing Dave's praises prior to this season. So was Kubiak. A *lot* of fans agreed that DC wasn't the biggest problem. Kudos to you and the many folks with you, hindsight has proven you correct. But prior to this season the stance the Texans took with DC wasn't unreasonable at all, IMO.
Seriously,I see the offensive line as being much improved with everyone getting healthy...Esp.Spencer.Winston's knee is holding up and I believe he will be a steal. Until the Oline is stabilized it's really hard to evaluate guys playing behind it.You gotta have that deep passing game,a decent running game, and those short passes we know so well thrown in there. That said, perhaps it's time to cut the cord with Carr...I'm still not so sure. I'm definitely not enamored with Plummer.Yes,he knows the system, but that's it as far as I'm concerned. If we're going to groom a high pick behind him..maybe,but I'd almost rather have Sage in the meantime. I want to see us take AP wit our 1st. Kolb would be nice as a guy to be groomed. If we don't take AP I'd like to see us get Russell.(assuming Carr is outta here) After all is said and done though,I'm still not convinced that Carr can't do the job behind a healthy offensive line.
OL are suppose to take 2-3 years to develop a pro game. Thus, the jury is still out on Spencer and Winston. Kubiak's top 2 defensive picks did work out, so I chose to be hopeful. The jury is not out on Caper's OL picks, no allstars here. My preference is to draft a DL (Okoye) in the first, an OL (Staley) in the second, and a QB (Kolb) or a DB in the third. The QB choice is just in case Carr can't survive the next two years or so while the OL get it together.
David Carr will be playing here in 2007. This is BEWLCHIT. AggieDentist, look at the picture again... picture it on your mind... now look at the thread starter's nickname. Got it? Good... let's move on...
With all this talk of Jake Plummer, who is very likely, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Damon Huard, who's contract just expired as a possibility. He would definitely be able to handle the job (granted, the Chiefs have on of the best lines in football) and would probably be happy to make the jump to starting QB. I think he'd be the best option at this point. However, as much as I would like to see Huard in a Texans jersey, I think it's more likely we'll pull over Plummer. Kubiak already has a history of filling up the depth chart with former Broncos, (Putzier, Dayne) and Plummer had some success with Kubiak in the past.
I know Spencer's injury was pretty bad,but he sure looked good before. I too would like to see another offensive lineman added, perhaps with a low 1st or a 2nd.We at least need some insurance...maybe even a free agent acquisition. I still haven't given up on Travis yet though. In fact I look for him to have a breakout season next year.
Speaking of great Houston QB's...Jim Kelly threw for an unbelievable 5,219 yards and 44 touchdowns in his rookie season, and followed that up with 4,623 yards and 39 TDs in 1985 despite missing several games with an injury.
