Sorry to hear it mc mark. :(

I never thought something would make it a little harder to root against the Yankees, but this kinda does in a weird way.

    Thanks guys.

I'll be okay. I got a nice little severance package and a little money in the bank, so it's not the end of the world.

    It's just a shock!

I've kind of been in a daze the last two days.

This series has gone pretty much just as I expected. People have been underestimating the Marlins all season. It's hard to say this as a HUGE Yankee's fan, but I will not be too disappointed if Florida wins it all because the RED SOX & CUBS DIDN'T GET THERE!

Time to flip the switch YANKEES!

    Wooohooooo!!!

    Way to go Marlins!!!!

I am sure the Yankee's owner just loves his big amount of spending on his losing team.

There's NOTHING better in sports than watching a team celebrate a world championship... especially as the visiting team.

Now, maybe the best part of all of this, is that you get to see the fallout in all of baseball's big money clubs... especially the Yankees.

    Cashman - gone

    Zimmer - gone

    Torre - likely gone

    Soriano - on the block

Pettite - he actually may have convinced Steinbrenner to resign him, but he may not want to stay now.

    Clemens - retired (for sure)

While the Yankees will never be BAD, their organization is not in good shape right now.

Since 2000, they've made big FA signings EVERY year... while none of them have been busts, they've never showed the DOMINANCE that they had from 96-2000.

This team SHOULD have been dead in 2001, after the Diamondbacks ended up winning a series in 7 that they probably should have won in 5 (had they not allowed the dramatic comebacks).

Last year, the Yankees got EXPOSED by the angels.

This year, they probably SHOULD have lost to the Red Sox, but Little was a crazy man.

Now, they've rightfully lost to the better team... that has less than a third of the payroll.

If anything, Steinbrenner will re-dedicate this organization into developing the quality products that they once churrned out with regularity... especially pitchers (can you name a Yankee farmhand since Pettite and Rivera? no.)

The best world series pitching performance since Jack Morris in 1991

Congrats to the 2003 World Series Champion Florida Marlins

Good post Nick. The Yankees never should have been in this position if it wasn't for moron Grady.

But I have to say that I love seeing this because you know that losing to a team that has a third (or even less) of the payroll of the vaunted Yankees is unacceptable to that meglomaniac of meglomaniacs, Steinbrenner.

    Let the fallout begin!:D

I think Beckett was better. Even Jack Morris almost had a run score on him (stupid Lonnie Smith). The Yankees just had no chance whatsoever. Hail to the champs!

Very, very happy for the Marlins. They presented the template for small(ish) market teams to win it all- speed, defense, key veteran leadership at critical positions and dominant starting pitching. I think their superior defense was the difference in the series.

As for the impending blow-up of the Yankees, I would love to take Soriano off their hands. Stick him in the outfield and hope he can lay off a pitch every now and then. He may have been awful in the playoffs (and why not take second base on a tag-up in the 8th inning with the Juan Pierre's Barry Bonds-esque arm in center field?), but that doesn't mean he is still isn't one of the great talents in the game. He will hit 50-50 one day.

Beckett was better... but I don't think anybody so far has said Morris' performance was better, so I don't think these two are comparable.

Although, (just for argument's sake), Morris never pitched with a lead (it was 0-0 till the bottom of the 10th), and he did pitch into extra innings (stupid DH).

Then again... Beckett is pitching in the house that Ruth built... and he's 23.

    Unbelievable.
